Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work
  • Active California certification as a Certified Recreation Therapist or National Certification as a Certified Recreation Specialist (CTRS) or Registered California Board of Occupational Therapist License required
  • One (1) year of clinical experience with seriously emotionally disturbed adolescents in an inpatient or outpatient health care setting (internship and/or practicum time may be substituted)

Job Overview

The Recreation/Occupational therapist is a treatment team member responsible for providing recreational or occupational services to adolescent clients within the Rehabilitation Program. Services are delivered through individualized and/or group activities to restore, establish, and maintain optimal levels of social, vocational, and physical functioning.

  • Develop, implement, and supervise the recreation/activities program, including social activities, indoor and outdoor recreational activities, exercise activities, and client involvement in planning and implementation.
  • Create individualized therapeutic group schedules for each client and assist clients in setting and achieving treatment goals and self‑directed recovery.
  • Conduct written rehabilitation assessments of new clients utilizing verbal, written, auditory, and visual communication.
  • Lead or co‑lead therapeutic groups with treatment team staff.
  • Document and report client progress in therapeutic programs, including group activities and individualized goal planning.
  • Provide work direction to rehab aides as needed.
  • Notify the treatment team of recommendations and plans for recreation/activities implementation.

A comprehensive mental health inpatient residential facility for adolescents serving up to 60 residents (ages 12‑17) statewide. The facility offers intensive residential services dedicated to clients with serious mental health problems and operates since 1988 with multidisciplinary mental health and therapeutic behavioral services.
