Responsibilities
- Obtain comprehensive patient histories and physicals related to the chief complaint(s), including medical screening exams.
- Order and perform appropriate diagnostic testing and screening for the chief complaint(s).
- Interpret lab and imaging results to accurately diagnose illness and determine next steps for treatment and specialty consultation.
- Participate in procedural assistance as indicated by the diagnosis.
- Provide health maintenance and promotion, including patient and family education, return precautions, and follow‑up instructions.
- Collaborate with the attending physician for disposition planning, including discharge home, specialty consultation, and admissions.
- Engage in indirect patient care responsibilities such as staff and student education, clinical research, program development, and quality improvement.
- Commit to ongoing learning and personal professional development to optimize contribution to patients and the advanced practice profession.
Qualifications
Education required:
- Completion of a Nurse Practitioner Master of Science in Nursing.
- Successful completion of a national certification exam for NP or graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant program.
License, certification and/or registration:
- Current registration with the Alabama Board of Nursing and Board of Medical Examiners or current Alabama PA license.
- Approval of the Crestwood Hospital credentialing board.
- BLS certification required by the end of the orientation period.
Additional skills/abilities:
- Excellent communication skills.
- Ability to work in a fast‑paced environment, prioritize and adapt to changing tasks frequently and quickly.
- Team player who works well with others.
- Previous experience with electronic medical records preferred.
