Overview

Geisinger’s Cancer Institute seeks an Advanced Practitioner to join the Palliative Medicine team at GMC. The role supports inpatient palliative care needs in a clinical environment and is responsible for assessing patients, establishing presumptive diagnoses, and managing treatment plans.

Responsibilities

  • Assess and establish presumptive diagnoses and implement treatment plans for the patient population.
  • Order and interpret diagnostic testing and consult as appropriate, prescribing evidence‑based medical therapy.
  • Prescribe, adjust, or discontinue medications or therapies as clinically warranted.
  • Evaluate and report to the collaborating physician any circumstances or test results that present significant risk to patient health or well-being.
  • Perform procedures within the scope of NP practice.
  • Communicate with the collaborating physician, patient, PCP, and referring staff via telephone or other means.
  • Advocate for patients, providing safe, ethical care and health education in an understandable language.
  • Interpret and follow policies and guidelines to define procedures and meet goals and deadlines.
  • Comply with all organizational policies, procedures, and job‑specific obligations.

Qualifications

  • Master’s Degree in Nursing with certification as a Nurse Practitioner (required).
  • Licensed Registered Nurse in Pennsylvania.
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner by the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners.
  • Basic Life Support Certification (any recognized issuing body).

Education

  • Master’s Degree – Nurse Practitioner (Required)

Certifications & Licenses

  • Basic Life Support (BLS)
  • Certified Nurse Practitioner – American Academy of Nurse Practitioners
  • Licensed Registered Nurse – State of Pennsylvania (RN)
