Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant - Critical Care Opportunities (FT, PT, Per Diem)

The Advanced Practitioner (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) is responsible for providing healthcare services to patients under the supervision of, and/or in collaboration with, the attending physician. They participate in patient satisfaction, quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Schedule

• Rotational Schedule: days/nights/weekends to provide 24/7 Critical Care APP coverage.
• Night only and rotational or night weekend only positions available – 13 hour shifts (6:00a.m.–7:00p.m. and 6:00p.m.–7:00a.m.) 18 shifts in a 6‑week block.
• No more than 50% nights and 50% weekends.
• Per Diem: 3 night shifts and/or weekend shifts in a 6‑week block. (Weekend shifts are days: Saturday or Sunday; nights: Friday, Saturday, or Sunday.)

• Allentown Campus – 15 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU
• Anderson Campus – 16 bed mixed Medical/Surgical/Trauma ICU
• Bethlehem Campus – Cardiac Medical/Surgical ICU (12 beds), Neuro ICU (variable beds), Surgical/Trauma ICU (variable beds)
• Carbon Campus – 12 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU
• Grandview Campus – 26 mixed Medical/Surgical/Trauma ICU
• GSL Campus – 10 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU
• Monroe Campus – 12 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU
• Upper Bucks Campus – 10 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU
• Warren Campus – 12 bed mixed Medical/Surgical ICU

Job Duties and Responsibilities

• Assess, treat, counsel and educate patients and their families, providing medical services.
• Evaluate patients and perform physical examinations, including obtaining, studying, and updating medical histories.
• Determine abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests (radiologic and laboratory studies) and accurately interpreting results.
• Evaluate, develop, and implement appropriate patient management and treatment plans based on assessment of needs.
• Coordinate and communicate patient care effectively with other healthcare professionals and institutions to meet patient healthcare needs.
• Provide high‑quality health care based on best practice and/or evidence‑based medicine.
• Perform therapeutic and diagnostic procedures as appropriate and in alignment with granted clinical privileges.
• Conduct virtual care services (live and interactive clinical assessments, diagnosis, and treatment) via St. Luke’s virtual care platform as requested, assisting in care coordination and/or escalation of care.
• Maintain professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, and participating in professional societies.
• Maintain required continuing medical education.
• Participate in research, development, implementation, and tracking of clinical management guidelines.
• Teach multidisciplinary students (nursing, nurse practitioner, pharmacy, physician assistant, medical, etc.) and physician residents & fellows, ensuring a positive educational environment.
• Participate in AP student clinical rotation preceptorship when assigned.
• Demonstrate performance improvement in areas such as clinical care/outcomes, customer/service improvement, operational system/process, and safety.
• Use electronic medical record efficiently; remain current with documentation and provide optimal billing documentation.
• Demonstrate financial responsibility and accountability through effective and efficient use of resources.
• Develop care and disposition plans in conjunction with the case management team.

Qualifications

• Board‑eligible or board‑certified Registered Nurse Practitioner or Medical Physician Assistant with current license to practice in Pennsylvania or New Jersey.
• Two years of experience desired, preferably in critical care, trauma, and/or acute care setting.

Physical and Sensory Requirements

• Sit up to 8 hours per day; 3 hours at a time.
• Stand for up to 8 hours per day.
• Walk up to 6 hours per day.
• Frequently lift, carry, and push objects up to 10 pounds; rarely up to 75 pounds.
• Frequently stoop and bend, often reaching above shoulder level, and perform firm grasping and twisting & turning during procedures.
• Ability to perceive object attributes through touch, hear normal conversation, and see general, near, far, color, and peripheral vision.
• Ability to speak normally and project for lectures and presentations.

Salary

$99,000 – $136,900.00
