Nurse Practitioner

The nurse practitioner will assist in medical care of office patients in the outpatient setting as outlined in the principal duties and responsibilities below and will participate in all aspects of patient care as indicated. The nurse practitioner will also have direct reporting responsibility to the attending physician of the respective patients for all evaluations and other duties performed.

Major responsibilities include:

• Providing direct care to patients
• Demonstrating the ability to problem-solve, analyze existing programs, and apply process improvement principles
• Examining patients to obtain information about their physical condition
• Making tentative diagnosis and decisions about management and the patient
• Obtaining, compiling, and recording patient medical data, including health notes and results of physical examination
• Administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-ray, electrocardiograms, and laboratory tests
• Participating in patient care conferences when appropriate
• Describing the etiology and symptomatology of each selected disease process within specialty area
• Discussing current trends in management of patients with each selected disease process
• Consistently executing those aspects of the nursing care plan requiring specialized clinical expertise and skill
• Recognizing and addressing situations and concurrent medical problems which pose a challenge to the patient
• Assisting with the communication of the discharge plan to the patient and significant others
• Obtaining the results of diagnostic studies and initiating further treatment in collaboration with attending physician/designee
• Consistently demonstrating commitment and accountability for the primary responsibility of providing quality patient care to a specialized group of patients
• Always demonstrating respect for the patient’s confidentiality
• Demonstrating responsiveness to the patient and family members
• Interpreting medical/nursing management to the patient, family, and other health care professionals
• Discussing the stages of death and dying and methods of intervention appropriate to each patient, which will enhance and ensure quality of nursing care
• Maintaining awareness of new developments in specialized area of expertise
• Applying appropriate current theoretical concepts when implementing changes in medical/nursing care
• Identifying the appropriate personnel to contact for specific problems
• Interacting with, and appropriately involving other health professionals in patient management
• Demonstrating a working knowledge of computers/information systems
• Demonstrating competence in crisis situations
• Recognizing/identifying critical changes in patient’s clinical status
• Identifying the clinical manifestations of an emergency situation which require immediate intervention and responding in an appropriate and timely manner
• Identifying and responding appropriately to the impact of the crisis of acute illness upon the patient, family, and other members of the health care team
• Performing other duties within the scope of the position

Qualifications:

• Must possess current licensure as a Nurse Practitioner in NYS.
• Must possess demonstrated effective communication skills both written and verbal.

Salary: $110,000 to $125,000 per year DOE
