The Nurse Manager provides leadership and clinical oversight for medication management, administration, and overall nursing care across a large residential campus and chapter 766 therapeutic school, or across multiple scattered-site group homes in Plymouth, MA.
Through the supervision and support of Registered Nurses, Health ServiceCoordinatorsand Wellness Coordinators, the Nurse Manager ensures the delivery of high-quality, consistent health care services that meet the complex needs of youth in care.Grounded in a thorough understanding of the agency’s mission, treatment philosophy, policies, and procedures, the Nurse Manager integrates these principles into daily practice and guides the nursing team in doing the same. The role includes strengthening clinical practices, enhancing quality of care, and promoting ahealthy,safeand therapeutic environment for youth.
How You\'ll Be Making a Difference
- Maintain acomprehensiveunderstanding of the population ofyouthin need oflong-term, trauma-informed care
- Oversee the development ofan individualized health services plan using a collaborative, wellness-focused approach. Monitor the implementation and effectiveness of the plan.
- Assistwith the development and implementation ofhealthcare policies and procedures for thecampuswhich adhere toregulations from all collateral agencies such as DCF, DESE,DPHand EEC.
- Work as part of an interdisciplinary team in the management of ongoing care foryouthin a long-term residential and educational setting,including medication administration, routine healthcare, and medical case management.
- Work directly with the prescriber to ensure that they have up-to-date information in order to provide quality medication management services for each youth.
- In collaboration with program leadership,hire nursing staff andengage in performance managementandstaffdevelopment and training.
- Oversee all aspects of the administration of medications, including the direct administration, training and supervision of Registered Nurses, Health Services Coordinators, Wellness Coordinators and certified staff. Assist with and oversee the preparation of leave of absence and/or transfer/discharge medications.
- Oversee the coordination ofhealth education foryouthand families and training for staff.Serve as a trainer inMAP, CPR, Narcan,EpiPen, Inhalerand First Aid.
- Provide oversight to the health screenings conducted at intake and conductboth routine health screenings and provide first aid or medical careas needed.
- Oversee the coordination of medical,diagnosticand laboratory appointments.
- Ensureongoing evaluation ofyouthincluding vital signsas prescribed.Assistin making decisionsregardingthe course of treatment andmonitoringthe effectiveness, side effects, adverse reactions, and drug interactions of all medications.
- Provide brief crisis counseling as needed and assistincrisis prevention planning.
- Monitor laboratory reports andinitiateappropriate action.
- Oversee the coordinationof health care with ancillary staff, family members, guardians, psychiatrists, primary and specialty health care providers, and other professionals within the Home and with external organizations. Maintainon-goingcommunications with primary health careprovider.
- Work actively as part of an interdisciplinary team to provide quality care, attend teammeetingsand communicate regularly with team members. Assistwith discharge planning.
- Provide oversighttothe documentation process and complete reports and documentation needed foryouthrecords, the Home and collateral and regulatory agencies.
- Assure that all medication and medical supplies are ordered, received,and checked for accuracy.
- Provide on-call, as part of an on-call rotation, for medication and or medical-related questions.
Qualifications
- Current RN license
- Pediatric and/or psychiatric nursing experience
- Experience with the assessment of youth during physical restraints preferred
- Ability to assess andmonitorchildren for illness and injury
- Computer literate including use of Microsoft Office and use of an Electronic Health Record system with the ability to learn new software applications
