Nurse Clinician 3 - Part Time

Position Summary

The Nurse Clinician 3 (NC3) is responsible for providing advanced skilled nursing care to incarcerated adults in the state correctional facilities in ambulatory, infirmary, long term care, and palliative care settings.

Advanced job responsibilities include: patient assessment and treatment, assisting the physician in providing medical services, developing and monitoring of treatment plans, coordinating treatment plans with treatment team, complex care related to activities of daily living (ADL), emotional/psychological support, management of medications, provision of emergency care, and maintenance of medical records.

In addition to direct healthcare provision responsibilities, this position will assist with staff assignment scheduling and appropriate delegation to nursing staff to meet the needs of the assigned patients or patient population.

Additionally, the Nurse Clinician is expected to develop and/or participate in educational programs for staff and patients about safe completion of Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s), chronic disease management, treatment plans, medical diagnoses, along with evaluating quality assurance of standards of care within the unit. This position will serve as a consultant to uniformed and non-uniformed staff as indicated.

Salary Information

This position is in pay schedule and range 11-01 with a starting pay of $47.04/hour - $57.23/hour . The rate offered within this range will relate to years of licensure/credentialing as a registered nurse. Pay will be set in accordance with the Compensation Plan and Wisconsin Administrative Code in effect at the time of hire. A probationary period is required.

Those hired into a Nurse Clinician 3 - Weekend classification will receive an additional $10.00/hr for hours worked during qualifying (weekend) hours. These positions are scheduled for dedicated weekend hours and have different leave provisions located in sections 3.04, 4.03, and 5.02 in Section K of the Compensation Plan.

Candidates with no prior permanent employment with the State of Wisconsin in the past 5 years may be eligible to accept a sign-on bonus of $3,000. The sign-on bonus will be paid in two installments: $1500 on the first paycheck and $1500 with the paycheck for the pay period in which the employee attains permanent status (usually 1 year). (UW System employment isn’t disqualifying.)

To receive the bonus, a candidate must sign an agreement indicating they will remain in that position for a year. If the candidate leaves their position prior to completing the one year, they may be required to reimburse the initial payment.

Job Details

This position is not eligible for remote work and will work on site.

This position is FLSA Exempt.

Employees must maintain certification in Basic Life Saving (BLS) by the American Heart Association and training in the use of the AED and have the ability to perform BLS and/or first aid to prevent loss of life and relieve suffering until appropriate care arrives.

Healthcare employees in this classification must have the ability to work up to 16 hours per day and more than 40 hours per week on any shift based on daily operational needs. This may include weekends, holidays, and on-call hours.

This position has physical requirements related to performing the job duties that involve being able to stand, sit, and move freely. This role will reposition patients, manipulate fine objects, and lift freely up to 40 lbs. to perform necessary tasks, and may need to occasionally climb stairs. This position is not anticipated to travel on a regular basis, but most DOC positions occasionally travel for training, meetings, conferences, or similar events.

Qualifications

Applicants must possess and maintain an active unrestricted license to practice as a Registered Nurse in the State of Wisconsin or another state participating in the Nurse Licensure Compact at the time of application. Temporary licenses are not permitted.

In addition to the license, minimally qualified applicants will have experience:

• Treating patient conditions with appropriate utilization of nursing protocols.
• Developing, refining, and revising a patient plan of care utilizing continuous patient assessment and evaluation.
• Providing healthcare education to patients and staff.
