Summary

This position, in collaboration with a physician, develops an anesthesia care plan. The role provides IV sedation and/or monitored anesthesia care and administers general, regional, or local anesthesia for a variety of surgical, obstetrical, diagnostic, or therapeutic procedures. The provider monitors patients accurately and performs CPR, ventilation, or life support measures during emergencies throughout the Medical Center, manages the patients' physiological condition while under anesthesia, and initiates corrective actions as necessary or as directed by a physician. The practitioner also assists with departmental or professional duties as requested by the Manager of Anesthesiology.

Qualifies for up to a $75,000 Signing Bonus plus Relocation.

Responsibilities

  • Perform pre‑anesthetic evaluation and preparation.
  • Prepare the OR suite for all types of anesthesia.
  • Administer, manage, and monitor anesthesia care during induction, maintenance, and emergence.
  • Provide post‑anesthesia care and evaluation.

Certifications and Licenses

  • ACLS: Advanced Cardiac Life Support – required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support – required within 1 month of hire or transfer.
  • RN: Registered Nurse – required.
  • CRNA: Certified RN Anesthetist – required.
  • NBCRNA: National Board CRNA – required.

Education

  • Required education: Nurse Anesthetist (NURSE ANESTHETIST).

Other Duties and Responsibilities

  • Takes appropriate safety precautions to ensure safe administration of anesthesia.
  • Identifies opportunities for improving quality, including patient outcomes and operational efficiency within the Department.
  • Provides clinical support to other departments within the Medical Center.
  • Participates in further learning opportunities offered by MyMichigan Health as required.

Experience, Training and Skills

  • Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills to interact with individuals at all levels.
  • Ability to perform basic and advanced anesthesia skills, including adult and pediatric venipuncture, arterial line insertion, medication calculation, sterile technique, airway maintenance, and administration of regional anesthetics.
  • Compliance with all Medical Center policies and practices as described in the employee handbook.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Windows and related technology.

Physical/Mental Requirements and Typical Working Conditions

  • Exposure to stressful situations, trauma, grief, and death.
  • Ability to wear personal protective equipment, including latex or appropriate substitutes.
  • Mobility throughout the facility with or without assistance; ability to perform all job functions.
  • Vision and hearing necessary; occasional use of assistive devices is acceptable.
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk for long periods; may require frequent postural changes such as stooping, kneeling, or crouching.
  • Exposure to blood‑borne pathogens and other infectious materials; must comply with bloodborne pathogen and TB testing requirements.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks, work independently, maintain regular and predictable attendance, and stay alert.
  • Dexterity required; repetitive handling, reaching, grasping, and movement may be frequent.
  • Physical demand level: Medium.

Must occasionally lift or carry 21–50 lbs. (0–33% of the workday), frequently carry 20 lbs. (34–66% of the workday), and continuously manage 10 lbs. (67–100% of the workday).
