Who We Are
The Division of Diagnostic Imaging and Radiology is located within the hospital (SZ campus) and at the Rockville, Maryland Children’s National Imaging (CNI) site. The Division offers imaging services for a complete range of pediatric diseases and conditions.
Services provided at the main hospital include general radiography, fluoroscopy, special procedures (interventional), nuclear medicine, positron emission tomography, ultrasound, computerized axial tomography, bone densitometry, and magnetic resonance imaging.
Services provided at Children’s National Imaging (Rockville, Maryland) include general radiography, fluoroscopy, ultrasound, computerized axial tomography, and magnetic resonance imaging.
What You’ll Bring
Minimum Education:
- Associate's Degree Graduate of approved program in Nuclear Medicine (Required)
Minimum Experience
- 1 year Clinical Nuclear Medicine experience in a hospital environment (Preferred)
Required Skills/Knowledge
- Understands and performs all aspects of Nuclear Medicine and PET studies
Certifications/License Requirements
- Registered Radiography Technologist (ARRT) A.R.R.T (N) Upon Hire (Required) Or
- Certified Nuclear Medicine Technologist (CNMT) Upon Hire (Required)
Functional Accountabilities
Quality Control
- Maintain required NRC records.
- Identify each image with proper and permanent patient data.
- Perform all required calibration, wipe tests and other QC tests.
- Follow correct procedures regarding warm-up, use and shut-down of equipment.
- Check paperwork, P ACS and patient charges for accuracy prior to submission and complete RIS assignments immediately following exam.
- Maintain cleanliness of exam rooms and equipment; ensure room is prepared & stocked prior to start of exam and at change of shift.
- Ensure section is in compliance with all pertinent NRC, DOH, and JCAHO rules, regulations, and standards.
Patient Care
- Greet patients respectfully, introduce self to patient and treat all patients/families in a kind, courteous and professional manner; explain exam to patients/parents; communicate with patient throughout the exam and release patient/parent with appropriate follow-up info.
- Make every attempt to meet scheduled appointment time and accommodate stat or add-on requests.
- May be asked to travel to a CH-affiliated site, be cooperative and willing to assist, when asked.
- Ensure proper and safe handling of isotope for preparation of injection to patient; ensure safety standards are followed for staff involved with PET/CT patients.
- Work in conjunction with CT Technologists.
- Share on call responsibilities with all Nuclear Medicine Technologists, equally .
Clinical Safety
- Adhere to all OSHA regulations.
- Ensure Time Outs are conducted prior to injection of Isotope.
- Inquire about menstrual status and possibility of pregnancy for female adolescents and teens.
- Immediately report equipment malfunctions to engineer and complete appropriate paperwork.
- Act as coordinator for all equipment repair and calibration.
- Practice personal radiation safety .
Administrative
- Coordinate daily workflow to ensure all patients are serviced in a timely and quality-oriented fashion; prioritize daily patient flow and ensure timely throughput
