Overview

In partnership with Tampa General Hospital (TGH) Heart & Vascular Institute (HVI), the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences, Section of General & Preventive Cardiology, is seeking an academic non‑invasive general cardiologist for a full‑time position at the Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor rank. The position provides attending staff privileges at TGH and affiliated hospitals and includes a 12‑month salaried faculty appointment. Strong interest in teaching and commitment to academic service are desired. Appointment requirements: Associate Professor requires at least five years of continuing and productive service as Assistant Professor; Full Professor requires at least five years of ongoing and productive service as Associate Professor.

Responsibilities

  • Clinical: Participate in inpatient general cardiology consult service, non‑invasive call & coverage, read EKGs and stress tests, engage in Echo Lab and trans‑esophageal echocardiography coverage, perform outpatient clinic duties, diagnose and treat cardiovascular disorders, perform patient exams, order diagnostic testing, develop treatment plans, prescribe medication, coordinate referrals, conduct early detection screenings, maintain accurate patient records, and communicate effectively with patients, physicians, staff, and administration. Report to Chair or higher‑level administrator.
  • Teaching: Responsible for teaching, research, service, and related administrative activities; mentor medical students, residents, and post‑doctoral fellows; conduct didactic teaching and clinical education.
  • Administrative / Leadership: Provide academic advising and represent the university/department as required.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Doctoral/Medical degree from an accredited institution with a demonstrated record of achievement in teaching, academic research, and service.
  • Must meet university criteria for appointment to the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor.
  • For Associate or Full Professor, normally have produced creative work, professional writing, or research in recognized journals and be a recognized authority in the field.
  • Expertise in hypertension management or vascular disease to lead a resistant hypertension or medical vascular program (sport cardiology expertise also encouraged).
  • MUST BE BOARD CERTIFIED/ELIGIBLE IN: General Cardiology.

Additional Minimum Requirements:

  • Full, unrestricted Florida Medical License (or foreign equivalent).
  • Maintenance of credentials in the USF Health faculty practice plan and status as a medical staff member in good standing at assigned hospitals.
  • Participation in teaching of residents, fellows, and medical students in clinical medicine.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Teaching experience with students/residents, administrative organization/leadership of outpatient practices, and/or clinical research/scholarship experience.
  • Level II certification in Echocardiography.
  • Experience in adult non‑invasive assessment of heart disease, including surface echo, trans‑esophageal echo, stress echo, and adult congenital heart disease.
  • Experience with exercise testing, ECG interpretation, consulting, and attending in a coronary intensive care unit or similar environment.
  • Two years’ experience in Non‑Invasive Cardiology.
