Night Shift Production Supervisor – Manufacturing

A well-established manufacturing company in the Augusta Metro area is seeking an experienced Night Shift Production Supervisor to lead operations during a 12-hour rotating shift.

This hands‑on leadership position is responsible for employee safety, product quality, production output, cost efficiency, staffing, and workforce development. The Production Supervisor will maintain a strong presence on the manufacturing floor, address operational issues in real time, and build a safe, accountable, and productive team culture.

The ideal candidate has three to five years of manufacturing supervision experience and a proven ability to lead a diverse hourly workforce in a fast‑paced production environment.

Work Schedule

This position works from 8:00 p.m.-8:00 a.m. on a rotating 3-2-2-3 schedule .

The schedule provides:

  • Every other Friday, Saturday, and Sunday off
  • Three or four scheduled workdays per week
  • Built-in weekday availability

Candidates must be able to work the assigned night‑shift schedule, including alternating weekends and holidays when required by plant operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead all production activities during the assigned shift to achieve safety, quality, productivity, delivery, and cost objectives.
  • Maintain a visible, hands‑on presence throughout the production floor.
  • Monitor production performance and implement corrective actions when goals are not being met.
  • Coordinate staffing, work assignments, production priorities, and available resources.
  • Maintain appropriate staffing levels while effectively controlling overtime.
  • Respond quickly to equipment, process, staffing, and quality issues that could affect production.
  • Partner with maintenance, quality, engineering, warehouse, and plant leadership to support continuous operations.
  • Ensure an effective shift handoff by communicating production results, downtime, quality concerns, staffing issues, and outstanding action items.

Safety and Regulatory Compliance

  • Promote a safety‑first culture and ensure employees follow all plant safety requirements.
  • Conduct safety observations, workplace audits, incident reviews, and corrective‑action follow‑up.
  • Identify and address unsafe conditions or behaviors promptly.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA requirements and company environmental, health, and safety policies.
  • Confirm employees use required personal protective equipment and follow established procedures.

Quality and Process Control

  • Ensure products meet internal specifications and customer quality expectations.
  • Monitor quality documentation, standard operating procedures, process controls, and ISO requirements.
  • Confirm employees are properly trained and consistently following approved work instructions.
  • Review production and quality paperwork for accuracy and completeness.
  • Investigate quality concerns and support root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action efforts.
  • Respond to changing internal and external customer expectations without compromising safety or quality.

Team Leadership and Employee Development

  • Supervise, coach, motivate, and develop a diverse and experienced hourly workforce.
  • Set clear performance expectations and hold employees accountable for results.
  • Provide timely, constructive, and fair feedback regarding employee performance.
  • Complete accurate employee performance evaluations.
  • Help employees strengthen their problem‑solving and decision‑making abilities.
  • Build a respectful, collaborative, and accountable team environment.
  • Consistently administer company policies through coaching, documentation, and progressive discipline when necessary.
  • Identify training needs and support employee onboarding, cross‑training, and professional development.
  • Promote positive employee relations and open communication across the shift.
  • Support lean manufacturing and continuous‑improvement initiatives.
  • Review production data and key performance indicators to identify improvement opportunities.
  • Help reduce waste, downtime, scrap, quality defects, and unnecessary costs.
  • Participate in root‑cause analysis and corrective‑action activities.
  • Encourage employees to contribute ideas for improving safety, quality, productivity, and workflow.
  • Help implement and sustain standardized work, 5S practices, and operational best practices.

Required Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Three to five years of production supervisory experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Demonstrated success leading an hourly production workforce.
  • Experience managing safety, quality, production output, staffing, and employee performance.
  • Ability to learn manufacturing processes and production equipment quickly.
  • Experience coaching employees, providing performance feedback, and administering workplace policies.
  • Strong leadership, team‑building, communication, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Ability to remain calm and make sound decisions in stressful production situations.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office and production‑floor data‑entry or manufacturing information systems.
  • Ability to speak, read, write, and understand English.
  • Ability to work the required 8:00 p.m.-8:00 a.m. rotating schedule.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in manufacturing, operations, engineering, business, or a related field.
  • Experience with lean manufacturing, continuous improvement, 5S, root‑cause analysis, or similar production techniques.
  • Familiarity with ISO standards and controlled manufacturing documentation.
  • Working knowledge of OSHA, EEO, FMLA, and other relevant employment or manufacturing regulations.
  • Experience in a high‑volume or continuous‑process manufacturing environment.

Physical Requirements

Candidates must be able to:

  • Work a 12‑hour shift in an active manufacturing environment.
  • Stand and walk for extended periods.
  • Frequently bend, kneel, reach, push, and pull.
  • Push or pull roll carts and hoists.
  • Lift and carry up to 55 pounds.
  • Regularly ascend and descend ladders.
  • Work safely around operating equipment and in varying plant conditions.
  • Wear all required personal protective equipment.

Compensation and Benefits

The company offers:

  • Base salary up to $85,000 , based on experience
  • Annual bonus potential of up to 10%
  • Three weeks of vacation
