Open Pit Geotechnical Engineering SuperintendentWould you like to have a career with a collaborative, diverse, and dynamic mining company? We have an exciting opportunity for you!Nevada Gold Mines is building an internal geotechnical design team to develop designs for our open pits and waste rock storage facilities. We are looking for an Open Pit Geotechnical Engineering Superintendent to lead our internal geotechnical design team.The successful candidate will assist in developing and guiding projects within the Nevada Gold Mines portfolio at all stages of development from scoping level to active mining through closure.Responsibilities:Data collection and assessment of rock mass and rock fabric properties including logging of drill holes and excavationsInterpretation of laboratory and field testing of soil and rock materials, rock mass anisotropy and effects on slope performanceGeotechnical engineering analyses using Rocscience suite of surface stability software programs, Maptek IRC tool, LeapFrog, Deswik, Vulcan, etc.Perform slope design complianceDevelop geotechnical slope designs at the bench, inter-ramp, and overall slope scalesPreparation of technical memos and/or reportsStrong written and oral communication skills with various personnel levelsDevelop Open Pit geotechnical engineering design SOPsManage geotechnical design projects across the NGM open pit portfolio and coordinate with open pit geotechnical engineering leads at siteMentoring staff on geotechnical engineering principals and techniquesQualifications:Bachelor's degree in Geological Engineering or related field requiredMinimum of 10 years hands-on geotechnical experience at an active open pit mine site requiredHands-on experience with data collection and assessment of rock mass and rock fabric properties requiredStrong understanding of soil and rock soil properties, anisotropy and effects on slope design requiredStrong understanding of soils and rock deformability properties and characteristics requiredUnderstanding and experience with open pit blasting techniques and controls requiredStrong understanding of slope design workflows at the bench to overall slope scales requiredStrong competence in Rocscience suite of surface stability software programs, Maptek IRC tool, LeapFrog requiredExperience in use of Deswik and/or Maptek Vulcan preferredUnderstanding and experience in interpreting/reviewing numerical model inputs and results requiredUnderstanding of 3-D geologic model inputs and development, and impacts on slope stability and design requiredExperience with bench scale and inter-ramp scale slope design compliance requiredDemonstrated ability for developing and sustaining short term and long term projects requiredDemonstrated experience in project scheduling, budgeting, and tracking requiredMust be able to work in a team environment requiredSupervisory experience of engineers and technicians requiredWhat We Can Offer YouA comprehensive compensation package including a competitive medical, dental, and vision plan with national provider networks, a 401k retirement plan with employer contribution AND employer match, paid time off, company-sponsored medical clinics, company match share purchase program, and much more!Work in a dynamic, collaborative, progressive, and high-performing team.Endless opportunities to grow and learn with industry colleagues.Access to a variety of career opportunities across the organization.Nevada Gold Mines is committed to creating a diverse environment and is proud to be an equal opportunity employer.Thank you for your application, however, only those selected for an interview will be contacted.
