Registered Nurse – Medical Progressive Care Unit (MPCU)
Location: Mercy Hospital
Department: Medical Progressive Care
Schedule: Full-Time / Part-Time / Nights
Employment Type: Non Exempt

Position Details:

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with progressive medical needs, following evidence-based practice and Mercy standards.
  • Monitor vital signs, neurological status, respiratory function, renal function, infection indicators, and overall patient responses—intervening promptly as needed.
  • Administer medications, treatments, and procedures with accuracy and strong clinical judgment.
  • Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
  • Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care needs.
  • Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record.
  • Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety practices within the MPCU.
  • Support Mercy’s mission by providing compassionate, holistic care in a healing environment.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
  • Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.

Preferred:

  • Previous experience in medical progressive care, medical-surgical, telemetry, or other progressive/acute care settings.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or obtained within a specified timeframe).
  • NIH Stroke Scale certification (if applicable to patient population or unit protocols).
