Registered Nurse – Medical Progressive Care Unit (MPCU)

Position Details:
Key Responsibilities
- Deliver comprehensive nursing care to patients with progressive medical needs, following evidence-based practice and Mercy standards.
- Monitor vital signs, neurological status, respiratory function, renal function, infection indicators, and overall patient responses—intervening promptly as needed.
- Administer medications, treatments, and procedures with accuracy and strong clinical judgment.
- Collaborate closely with physicians, advanced practice providers, therapists, case managers, and interdisciplinary team members to develop and implement individualized care plans.
- Educate patients and families on medical conditions, treatment plans, medications, and post-discharge care needs.
- Document assessments, interventions, and patient outcomes accurately in the electronic medical record.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and uphold patient safety practices within the MPCU.
- Support Mercy’s mission by providing compassionate, holistic care in a healing environment.
Qualifications
Required:
- Graduate of an accredited nursing program.
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license (state-specific).
- Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
Preferred:
- Previous experience in medical progressive care, medical-surgical, telemetry, or other progressive/acute care settings.
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification (or obtained within a specified timeframe).
- NIH Stroke Scale certification (if applicable to patient population or unit protocols).
