The fellowship is based at Zuckerberg San Francisco General Hospital and Trauma Center (ZSFG), under the supervision of Geoffrey Manley, MD, PhD and Michael Huang, MD. ZSFG is the only Level I Trauma Center for San Francisco and the Northern Peninsula, serving nearly 2 million people in the Bay Area. It is the first and only hospital to receive disease-specific certification in the acute care of traumatic brain injury from the Joint Commission. Additional rotations through the Wilma Chan Highland Hospital in Oakland, California and the UCSF Weill Neurorecovery Clinic provide complementary and comprehensive experiences across inpatient and outpatient care.
The fellow will
-Learn surgical and medical treatment strategies for traumatic brain and spinal cord injuries, including multimodality monitoring
-Collaborate with members of neurology, pulmonary critical care and neuroradiology to deliver multidisciplinary care
-Develop increasing clinical independence and assume progressive leadership responsibilities.
Fellows are encouraged to develop individual research interests and have opportunities to participate actively in ongoing research projects. Through mentored training, fellows may gain experience in clinical neurotraumatology, clinical trial design and administration, and advancing standards and best practices in neurotrauma. Basic science research opportunities are also available through the UCSF Brain and Spinal Injury Center.
