The applicant will characterize and apply novel light-responsive proteins, including genetically encoded voltage indicators (GEVIs) and optogenetic silencers such as kalium channelrhodopsins (KCRs) and anion channelrhodopsins (ACRs), to advance tools for imaging and controlling neural activity.
