Neuropsychiatry Discovery Summer Intern

Location: La Jolla, California, United States of America.

Purpose

We are seeking a highly motivated summer intern for the Neuropsychiatry Discovery team who conducts and interprets biological experiments to support early‑discovery efforts. The intern will spend most of their time on the lab bench, planning and performing cellular, biochemical, and molecular biology experiments using human iPSC‑derived neuronal models under close mentorship to advance discovery projects.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, conduct, and interpret in‑vitro experiments using human iPSC‑derived neuronal models.
  • Use experimental approaches such as qPCR, fluorescence staining, and MEA electrophysiology to generate biochemical and functional data.
  • Provide project updates and experimental findings in verbal and written communication.
  • Collaborate across cross‑department teams and research groups to share results.
  • Follow laboratory safety and data integrity guidelines.

Qualifications

  • Senior undergraduate student, or early PhD student in neuroscience or a related field.
  • Mammalian cell culture experience; iPSC‑derived cell culture experience is a plus.
  • Biochemistry techniques such as qPCR and fluorescence staining.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Technical proficiency in GraphPad Prism or other statistical software and experience with PubMed or similar literature databases.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated interest in neuroscience research.

Pay Range

$26.50 per hour – $59.00 per hour, based on candidate’s program year, discipline, degree, and/or experience. Co‑Ops/Interns are eligible to participate in company‑sponsored employee medical benefits, sick time benefits, and the company’s consolidated retirement plan (pension).
