Neurologist w/Recruitment-Relocation Incentive/EDRP

Summary

The Amarillo VA Health Care System is recruiting a full‑time Physician (Neurologist) to treat and manage neurological conditions of Veteran patients, including seizure disorders, multiple sclerosis, neurodegenerative disorders, migraines, and more. A recruitment/relocation incentive and the Education Debt Reduction Program (EDRP) may be considered for a highly qualified candidate.

Duties

The Neurologist is responsible for treating and managing neurological conditions in patients at the Amarillo VA Health Care System. Additional duties include:

• Conduct neurologic consultations and follow‑up care.
• Work with primary care physicians on a consulting basis when patients show related symptoms.
• Diagnose neurological disorders and order appropriate diagnostic tests such as blood tests and imaging studies.
• Perform and evaluate lumbar puncture, Tensilon test, and EEG.
• Develop treatment plans for individual patients.
• Direct the activities of nurses and other medical technicians in patient treatment.
• Evaluate patient progress.
• Provide training to medical students or other staff members.
• Continuously update knowledge to provide the best care.

Work Schedule

Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Requirements

• U.S. citizenship; non‑citizens may only be appointed when no qualified citizens are available under VA policy.
• Subject to urinalysis for illegal drug use before appointment; refusal results in denial.
• Selective Service registration required for males born after December 31, 1959.
• Proficiency in written and spoken English.
• Subject to background and security investigation.
• Complete online onboarding and produce acceptable identification (REAL ID compliant).
• Pass pre‑employment physical examination.
• Participation in the seasonal influenza vaccination program required.
• Probationary period may be required.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements

• United States citizenship.
• Doctor of Medicine or equivalent approved by the VA for the year completed.
• Current, full and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in the U.S. or the District of Columbia.
• Residency training approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs, leading to eligibility for board certification. Accepted programs include accredited core specialty residency, one year of post‑medical school training followed by two years independent practice, or non‑U.S. residency followed by a minimum of three years of independent U.S. practice.
• Proficiency in spoken and written English.

Preferred Experience

• Board certified or board eligible in Neurology.
• Three or more years of clinical practice.
• Five or more years of experience diagnosing and treating patients with neurological conditions.
• Experience administering Botox injections, EMG, and TBI.

Education

Degree of Doctor of Medicine or an equivalent degree from an institution accredited for the year the degree was granted. Acceptable schools include those accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education for allopathic medicine, schools of osteopathic medicine approved by the Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation, or foreign medical graduates meeting ECFMG eligibility.
