Network Manager

Cook County Health is seeking an experienced Network Manager to lead its Hospital Information Systems Network Engineering team.

This position provides technical leadership, operational oversight, and team development while ensuring the reliability, security, performance, and scalability of enterprise network services across the healthcare system.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise the Network Engineering and Unified Communications teams.
• Establish network engineering standards, best practices, documentation requirements, and performance expectations.
• Design, implement, and support enterprise LAN, WAN, wireless, VoIP, VPN, internet, and intranet services.
• Oversee Network Operations functions, including monitoring, alert response, availability, and network performance.
• Maintain accurate network infrastructure diagrams and technical documentation.
• Lead network architecture and design decisions while evaluating security, reliability, recoverability, scalability, and cost.
• Partner with IT Security, organizational leadership, customers, vendors, and other technical teams to define network requirements and deliver solutions.
• Develop strategic network plans supporting business growth, equipment upgrades, and emerging technologies.
• Serve as the product owner for Cook County Health’s enterprise network services.
• Manage capital and operating budgets, forecasting, and cost-reduction initiatives.
• Set team and individual performance goals, conduct evaluations, and provide coaching, training, and professional-development opportunities.
• Lead projects involving the implementation and support of new technologies and services.
• Manage staffing and employee-relations responsibilities in accordance with organizational policies and applicable collective bargaining agreements.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• Seven years of professional experience supporting LAN, WAN, and VoIP environments.
• Five years of IT management experience within a healthcare or hospital environment.
• Three years of experience supervising or managing Unified Communications staff.
• Experience building or managing a Network Operations function responsible for enterprise monitoring, alerts, availability, and performance.
• Strong knowledge of network architecture, design, implementation, and information security.
• Applied experience supporting VoIP and Unified Communications services across an enterprise environment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in Information Technology, Computer Science, Management Information Systems, Business, or a related field.
• Ten years of LAN, WAN, and VoIP experience.
• Seven years of IT management experience within a healthcare or hospital environment.
• Five years of experience supervising or managing Unified Communications staff.

Knowledge and Skills

• Advanced knowledge of enterprise networking, including LAN, WAN, wireless, VoIP, network architecture, and security infrastructure.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, critical-thinking, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated ability to lead technical teams and successfully implement new technologies and services.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across technical, operational, and executive teams.
• Strong organizational, leadership, project-management, and time-management abilities.
• Ability to prioritize competing responsibilities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced healthcare environment.
• Ability to work independently while contributing effectively to multidisciplinary teams.
