At GCI, we solve the hard problems.As an Expert Network Engineer, a typical day will include the following duties:Designs and plans network communications to include on-prem and cloud-based systemsProvides specifications and detailed schematics for network architecturePlans implementation of enhancements and security upgrades to the networkConducts hands-on setup, configuration, testing, and troubleshooting of on-site network infrastructureConducts testing of network infrastructure using industry practicesMonitors network hardware and virtual (cloud) device operations to ensure properly functioning networks and capabilitiesAdvises network users of hardware needs, configurations, and limitationsProvides troubleshooting assistance and guidance to other team members as well as end users of the network(s)Provides detailed recommendations for hardware and software selection, implementation techniques, and toolsProvides technical expertise in all areas of network and computer hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as routers, switches, firewalls, bridges, gateways, etc.Evaluates and reports on changing or end of life technologies to ensure capabilities of the network remain up to date and secureRequired qualifications:Experience in IPSec site-to-site VPNExperience in Remote access VPNExperience configuring, designing, maintaining, and troubleshooting LAN/WAN devicesThorough understanding of network routing concepts (EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, IP MPLS)Basic understanding of QoS conceptsExperience with network monitoring technologiesExpertise in deploying Cisco, or Juniper firewall Manager serversExperience engineering and deploying cloud-based and on-prem network firewall solutionsExperience designing, engineering, and deploying controlled interfacesAbility to take customer requirements or problems and convert them into technical solutionsAbility to partner with systems administrators to solve complex problemsComplex problem management research and issue resolutionDesired qualifications:Experience configuring, designing, and troubleshooting QoS in LAN or WAN devicesExperience design, engineering, and deploying Multi-Factor Authentication solutionLocation: Reston, VA*A candidate must be a US Citizen and requires an active/current TS/SCI with Polygraph clearance.
