Network Engineer - Level IIIProvides technical guidance for directing and monitoring information systems operations. Provides support in the translation of business requirements into telecommunications (e.g., LAN, MAN, WAN, Voice and Video) requirements, designs and orders. Provides in-depth engineering analysis of telecommunications alternatives for government agencies in support of their strategic modernization efforts and telecommunications enhancement design for medium and large-scale telecommunication infrastructures. Provides interface support to telecommunications end users, telecommunications operations personnel, and telecommunications strategic program management. Monitors and responds to hardware, software, and network problems.

Provides the routine testing and analysis of all elements of the network facilities (including power, software, communications machinery, lines, modems, and terminals). Utilizes software and hardware tools and identifies and diagnoses complex problems and factors affecting network performance. Troubleshoots network systems when necessary and makes improvements to the network.Education & Experience LevelsLevel - Knowledge/Skill Description - Minimum Education - and/or - Minimum ExperienceIII - Provides technical/management leadership on major tasks or technology assignments. Establishes goals and plans that meet project objectives. Has domain and expert technical knowledge.

Directs and controls activities for a client, having overall responsibility for financial management, methods, and staffing to ensure that technical requirements are met. Interactions involve client negotiations and interfacing with senior management. Decision making and domain knowledge may have a critical impact on overall project implementation. May supervise others. - Master's Degree or higher - and/or - >15 yearsBackground: Created after , the Department of Homeland Security consolidated numerous agencies' data centers for central management.

CSRA's DC-1 program is committed to delivering an efficient, responsive, and mature data center operation through excellence in service delivery, performance, and continual service improvement.Qualifications in addition to the labor category requirements:Must be able to demonstrate expertise in providing operations oversight for a predominantly UNIX/LINUX/AIX environment that has 20% Windows Servers.Must have familiarity with TSM back-up systems, various types of mass storage.Must have experience with utilizing standard industry maintenance contracts.Must be conversant with TCP/IP based WANs and LANs to the point of being able to check the troubleshooting logic of WAN/LAN, OS and storage engineers.Must have a working knowledge of Data Center firewalls, Security monitoring and Network and Security best practices and principles.
