Network EngineerArlington VAAll hired employees are expected to have experience with Microsoft Copilot and/or an approved equivalent AI solution.The Lead Network Engineer serves as the technical subject matter expert responsible for the design, engineering, implementation, and sustainment of CISA's enterprise network infrastructure. This role ensures delivery of secure, scalable, high-performance network solutions across cloud, on-premise, and hybrid environments in support of CISA's mission.The Lead Network Engineer provides advanced technical leadership, supports enterprise modernization initiatives, and ensures network environments are resilient, interoperable, and compliant with DHS security requirements.Key ResponsibilitiesNetwork Architecture & DesignLead design and engineering of enterprise network infrastructure (WAN, LAN, DNS, wireless, and cloud networking)Develop and maintain network architecture designs and supporting documentationEnsure solutions meet performance, scalability, and security requirementsEngineering & ImplementationEngineer, test, and implement network solutions across CISA facilities and cloud environmentsSupport deployment of connectivity to cloud services (e.g., hybrid and multi-cloud architectures)Ensure all implementations meet DHS and CISA security standardsTechnical Expertise & Tier 3 SupportProvide advanced (Tier 3) troubleshooting and escalation support for network incidents and issuesLead root cause analysis and resolution of complex network problemsProvide expert technical guidance to engineering teams and Government stakeholdersInfrastructure Operations & OptimizationMaintain the integrity and performance of enterprise network systemsSupport monitoring, capacity planning, and performance optimizationEnsure network reliability, availability, and resilience across environmentsConfiguration & Change ManagementDevelop and implement network-related Change Requests (CRs) and documentationSupport configuration management processes and review gatesCoordinate with stakeholders for approvals, implementation, and communicationTesting & IntegrationConduct testing of hardware, software, and network solutions prior to production deploymentDevelop and execute test plans and validate system performance and integrationProduce test reports and support implementation plansSecurity & ComplianceImplement and maintain network security controls in accordance with DHS policies and NIST standardsSupport vulnerability management, patching, and system hardeningEnsure compliance with federal security requirements and operational standardsRequired QualificationsEducationBachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Information Systems, or related fieldAdditional experience may substitute for formal education (per Government guidance)ExperienceMinimum 10 years of experience in network engineering and designDemonstrated experience with enterprise network infrastructure and large-scale environmentsExperience supporting federal IT systems and mission-critical operationsDesired QualificationsExperience with cloud networking (AWS, Azure, hybrid cloud environments)Familiarity with DHS/CISA network environments and security requirementsExperience integrating identity, access management, and enterprise servicesRelevant technical certifications (e.g., CCNP, CCIE, CISSP)Key CompetenciesEnterprise network architecture and designAdvanced troubleshooting and problem resolutionCloud and hybrid network engineeringSecurity-focused network implementationCollaboration and technical leadershipWork Environment & RequirementsAbility to support classified environments up to Top Secret/SCI clearanceRequired to support on-site operations at DHS facilities with some telework flexibilityMay require support during non-standard hours to maintain operational continuity
