A confidential state agency is seeking a highly skilled Network Architect to provide technical expertise for the ongoing development, security, and support of its enterprise communication networks. This role is critical to maintaining reliable, secure connectivity across more than 60 agency sites and 46 county government systems while ensuring compliance with state and federal network security standards.
The successful candidate will collaborate with infrastructure, security, and development teams to design and maintain a robust network architecture supporting both internal and partner operations.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable voice and data communication networks using Cisco and Cisco/Meraki products.
- Manage and monitor firewalls, VPNs, and wireless infrastructure , ensuring performance, uptime, and security compliance.
- Provide technical troubleshooting and remote communication support between the state data center and partner sites.
- Evaluate system performance, conduct usability testing, and recommend improvements for scalability and reliability.
- Collaborate with infrastructure, security, and application teams to design network countermeasures and mitigate vulnerabilities.
- Develop and maintain network documentation , communicate system-level impacts, and contribute to architectural governance.
- Mentor junior team members and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives within the IT organization.
Required Skills
- 6+ years of experience with Cisco Firewalls, VPNs, Switches, and Routers .
- 4–6 years of experience with Cisco ISE and network access control.
- Strong background in Wireshark , network troubleshooting, and performance monitoring.
- Experience with Azure Cloud networking, virtualization, and data center infrastructure .
- Knowledge of DHCP, LAN/WAN design, and multi-tiered network architecture .
- Excellent communication skills with both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Valid driver’s license (occasional travel to county sites).
Preferred Skills
- Certifications: Cisco CCNA, CCNP, or MCSE preferred.
- Familiarity with PowerShell, nMap, SIEM tools, and Cisco Security Manager .
- 6+ years of experience in network design and operations across public or private environments (LAN/MAN/WAN).
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field required.
