Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites applications for the position of Neonatology Physician Assistant to join its Department of Pediatrics, Division of Neonatology.
About the Department

- 7 Neonatologists, 2 Neonatology Fellows, and 14 fellow NICU APPs
- The Renée Schine Crown Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) is a Level-3, 72 bed (single-roomed), state-of-the-art unit.
- We care for critically ill infants who are born at Rush and/or transferred in from network hospitals. Our patient mix ranges from extremely preterm infants to those with complex surgical needs.
- Our center has had consistent excellent outcomes in several major neonatal morbidities in very low birth weight infants within the Vermont Oxford Network.
- The Division partners with Obstetrics and Pediatric subspecialists to provide pre‑natal care and consultation through our multidisciplinary Fetal‑Neonatal Center.
- Our productive NICU Human Milk research team at Rush conducts clinical and translational research in diverse areas: clinical, neurodevelopmental, and economic outcomes associated with mother's own milk and donor milk, disparities in lactation, maternal, infant and milk microbiome, human milk science, and lactation physiology.
Duties & Responsibilities
- 100% Inpatient
- Provide delivery room attendance and management, direct patient care, procedures, and neonatal transport
- The schedule includes 10‑hour day shifts, 16‑hour overnight (4pm - 8am), and optional 24‑hour shifts on a rotating schedule—handled through self‑scheduling guidelines
- Role will report to the two NICU Co‑Lead APPs
Experienced NICU PAs may qualify for an up to $20,000 signing bonus!
Preferred Qualifications
- Applicants with previous Physician Assistant experience in neonatology is preferred.
- APRN Candidates will require Acute Care Certification if doing Inpatient work.
Position Requirements
Physician Assistant:
- Current licensure from the State of Illinois as a Physician Assistant/Associate or eligible to obtain a licensure through the Illinois Department of Financial and Professional Regulation (IDFPR) application process
- Successful completion of an accredited Physician Assistant/Associate Program
- Current certification from National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants
Pay Range: $144,230 - $203,000
