- In-house service maintains 8 FTE neonatologists with 2 on day shift and 1 on night shift
- Service also includes 23 neonatal nurse practitioners, dedicated respiratory therapy and pediatric pharmacy
- Regional level III tertiary unit includes 46 single family rooms with capacity for 58 beds
- Annual admissions are approximately 1,000
- Sanford Children's Hospital is the only free-standing children's hospital in the state of South Dakota
Responsibilities

- Perform history and physical exams
- Admit (if applicable to setting)
- Evaluate, diagnosis, and providing treatment or consultative service to newborns presenting with extremely complex and life-threatening problems such as severe prematurity, respiratory failure, shock, congenital abnormalities, hematologic, metabolic and neurologic derangements, and sepsis

Requirements
- M.D. or D.O. degree
- Successful completion of a hospital affiliated Pediatric residency program
- Completion of a fellowship in Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine accredited by the ACGME, the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physician and Surgeons of Canada
- Certification in the primary area of practice by the appropriate specialty/subspecialty board of the American Board of Medical Specialties (ABMS), the American Osteopathic Association (AOA) or the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, as applicable
- If not board certified at the time of application but completed fellowship training within the last five years, must achieve board certification within five years from the date of completion of fellowship training unless the appropriate governing Board waives such requirement
- Experience can be demonstrated by providing fellowship log (for recent fellowship graduates)
- If not applying directly out of a fellowship, provide a quality profile from current hospital(s) showing clinical activity for the past 12 months, including numbers of procedures performed morbidity, mortality, infection rates, and other complications
- Must be able to demonstrate care for 50 neonatal patients in the last 12 months
