Responsibilities
- Primary medical management of at‑risk or critically ill neonates/infants, including clinical decision‑making and intervention.
- Emergency stabilization of critically ill patients and emergency transport within the neonatal unit.
- Planning of discharge, parental education, and coordination with NICU staff, physicians, and discharge coordinators.
- Preceptorship and teaching of neonatal nursing students, NICU residents, and medical students.
- Staff development and education, guidance on clinical procedures, and evaluation of medical and nursing care.
- Participation in daily rounds, data collection for outcome measures, and contribution to research or quality‑improvement projects.
Qualifications
- Master’s degree in Nursing (or NNP certificate for those employed prior to 2003).
- Minimum 2years of related nursing experience in a neonatal setting.
- Current APRN Nurse Practitioner license in the state of practice.
- Certification as a Neonatal Nurse Practitioner through the National Certification Corporation (NCC).
- Basic Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and S.T.A.B.L.E. certifications.
- Eligibility for limited prescriptive authority in Louisiana.
- Knowledge of neonatal procedures such as chest tube placement, endotracheal intubation, lumbar puncture, percutaneous central line placement, and umbilical artery/vein catheterization.
- Proficiency with data entry and retrieval of patient information, and with Windows‑style applications.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule (24/7, weekend, holiday, on‑call).
Compensation
$30,000 sign‑on bonus for a 2‑year commitment.
Physical and Environmental Demands
The role requires frequent lifting of up to 50pounds and manipulation of light materials. Must be able to stand for prolonged periods, perform manual tasks, and work in environments with exposure to blood, body fluids, and other communicable diseases. Occupational risk includes exposure to hazardous medications and waste.
