In a nutshell:
The National Systems Manager will oversee the technical sales support organization in the Americas market. This role leads and directs the Applications, Training, Solutions Engineering and Product Management teams, with a primary focus on helping the sales organization develop, position, and win complex customer solutions. The National Systems Manager serves as a senior technical expert and trusted advisor to customers, sales professionals, and internal stakeholders, translating customer requirements into compelling, technically sound solutions across equipment, automation, software, and integrated systems.
What you will be doing:
- Lead the national technical sales support function, ensuring the sales organization has the expertise and resources required to successfully pursue complex equipment, automation, software, and integrated systems opportunities.
- Lead, coach, and develop the Solutions Engineering team, establishing clear priorities and directing technical resources toward the opportunities with the greatest strategic and commercial impact.
- Oversee and develop the Product Management team, ensuring strong product expertise, effective market positioning, competitive intelligence, product launch execution, and alignment with global business units.
- Actively participate in customer discovery meetings, technical presentations, solution reviews, demonstrations, and closing meetings alongside the sales team, particularly for strategic and complex opportunities.
- Engage directly with customers to understand their manufacturing processes, business objectives, production challenges, automation requirements, and future growth plans, then help translate those needs into the right Bystronic solution
- Develop and manage an efficient training program for customers that is state of the art and enhances their skills and product knowledge
- Develop and implement comprehensive product management strategies that enhance brand awareness and drive sales growth in the national market
- Oversee product development initiatives, ensuring products meet market demands and maintaining the company's competitive edge in the sheet metal industry
- Serve as a trusted technical advisor who can communicate complex concepts in a clear, business-focused manner to customer executives, plant leadership, engineering teams, and operators.
- Direct the technical development and validation of complex automation and systems concepts, ensuring proposed solutions are feasible, properly scoped, and aligned with customer expectations before commercial commitment.
- Partner closely with Sales leadership and Regional Sales Managers to prioritize strategic opportunities, develop pursuit strategies, and strengthen the technical and value-selling capabilities of the sales organization.
- Collaborate with global divisions, business units, engineering, service, project management, software, applications, and other stakeholders to develop complete end-to-end customer solutions.
- Maintain strong awareness of market trends, customer needs, competitive technologies, and emerging manufacturing solutions, and translate those insights into actionable product and sales strategies.
- Support new product and solution launches in the U.S. market, ensuring the sales organization is prepared to position the technology effectively and customers understand the value proposition.
- Help establish scalable tools, standards, processes, and best practices for technical discovery, solution development, technical presentations, and handoff of complex projects.
Requirements
Key Skillset:
- Deep technical understanding of sheet metal fabrication equipment, automation, manufacturing systems, and integrated production solutions; experience with laser cutting, bending, material handling, software, or related technologies is strongly preferred.
- Strong customer-facing presence with the ability to build credibility and trusted relationships with executives, plant managers, engineers, operators, sales professionals, and internal technical teams.
- Demonstrated ability to support consultative sales conversations by uncovering customer needs, connecting technical capabilities to business value, and helping advance complex opportunities.
- Excellent leadership and people-development skills, with experience directing technical professionals and cross-functional teams.
- Ability to evaluate complex technical requirements, identify risk, challenge assumptions, and guide teams toward practical and commercially viable solutions.
- Exceptional communication and presentation skills, including the ability to simplify highly technical subjects for different audiences.
- Strong business acumen and understanding of how manufacturing productivity, labor, throughput, uptime, automation, and total cost of ownership influence customer investment decisions.
- Collaborative leadership style with the ability to influence across Sales, Service, Engineering, Product Management, Project Management, and global organizations without relying solely on direct authority.
- Strong organizational and prioritization skills with the ability to manage multiple strategic opportunities and initiatives simultaneously.
- Willingness and ability to travel regularly to support customers, sales teams, and strategic opportunities throughout the U.S.
Your education & experience:
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, manufacturing, business, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent combination of education and relevant industry experience will be considered.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in technical sales support, applications engineering, solutions engineering, product management, automation, manufacturing technology, or a related field.
- Prior leadership experience managing technical or product-focused teams is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated experience working directly with customers and sales teams on complex capital equipment or manufacturing system opportunities.
