Minimum Qualifications:
- Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate with a Music (JX or JQ) endorsement
- Completion of an approved teacher preparation program
- Bachelor's degree or higher from an accredited institution
- Successful completion of the Michigan Test for Teacher Certification (MTTC) in Music
- Completion of required reading coursework (3 semester credit hours for secondary level)
- Documented clinical experience, including student teaching
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience teaching music at the middle and/or high school level
- Proficiency in both vocal and instrumental instruction
- Ability to organize and lead performances, concerts, and extracurricular music activities
- Strong classroom management and communication skills
- Commitment to culturally responsive teaching and inclusive practices
Responsibilities:
- Deliver standards-based instruction in music theory, performance, and appreciation
- Develop lesson plans that align with Michigan curriculum standards
- Assess student progress and provide timely feedback
- Collaborate with colleagues to support interdisciplinary learning
- Maintain a safe, respectful, and engaging classroom environment
- Participate in school events, professional development, and parent communication
