Remote Contract creative

Role Overview

Help improve music and audio technology by turning real-world listening observations into precise, structured training data. You will listen to short field recordings, identify musical and environmental details, and later assess whether AI-generated descriptions accurately reflect what is audible.

Key Responsibilities

  • Listen to 30 to 90 second field recordings using headphones in a quiet workspace.
  • Complete structured audio annotations covering instruments, tempo, key, scene details, crowd reactions, and timestamped background events such as traffic, sirens, and applause.
  • Compare recordings of the same song made in different locations and assess what remained consistent and what changed.
  • In later project phases, evaluate AI descriptions of audio clips, identify correct, inaccurate, or unsupported details, and provide concise evidence-based explanations.
  • Attend a paid onboarding and calibration session, plus a brief weekly sync.

Qualifications

  • At least 3 years of hands-on music or audio experience.
  • Background as a working or gigging musician, session player, producer, mixing engineer, music educator, ear-training instructor, band or choir director, conservatory student or graduate, location sound recordist, sound designer, foley artist, or podcast or documentary audio editor.
  • Strong analytical listening skills, including the ability to distinguish individual instruments in busy, noisy real-world recordings.
  • Ability to identify tempo within a few BPM and determine musical key. Relative pitch with a reference is acceptable.
  • Music theory knowledge, audio annotation ability, attention to detail, and clear written English.
  • Comfort with repetitive, detail-focused work in a web platform, including dropdown selections, timestamps, and short structured notes such as identifying when an instrument enters.
  • Quality headphones, a quiet workspace, and reliable internet access.

Work Terms

  • Remote independent contractor engagement.
  • Availability of 20 to 25 hours per week during the engagement window is required.

Compensation

$30 to $45 per hour.
