Municipal AssociateDirect Counsel is seeking a Municipal Associate with 5–7 years of transactional municipal law experience to join a highly regarded public law practice in Los Angeles. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney interested in advising cities, counties, special districts, and other public agencies on a wide range of complex transactional and governance matters.The ideal candidate will have substantial experience counseling public agency clients, drafting sophisticated municipal agreements, and navigating the unique statutory and regulatory frameworks applicable to public entities. Candidates should be self-motivated, collaborative, and comfortable serving as a trusted advisor to public officials and agency staff.ResponsibilitiesDraft and negotiate public works contracts, professional services agreements, development agreements, joint powers agreements, and other municipal transactional documentsAdvise public agency clients on public contracting requirements, open meeting laws, conflict of interest regulations, and related statutory frameworksPrepare staff reports, resolutions, ordinances, and agenda materials for public agency meetingsAttend and present at city council, board, commission, and other public meetings as neededAssist with procurement processes, including drafting and reviewing RFPs, RFQs, and bid documentsCollaborate with attorneys across practice areas on matters involving land use, real estate, infrastructure, and regulatory complianceQualifications5–7 years of municipal law, public agency, or related transactional legal experienceSignificant experience advising public entities on governance and transactional mattersExcellent drafting, research, analytical, and communication skillsStrong organizational skills and ability to manage matters independentlyCalifornia Bar admission requiredCompensation & BenefitsBase salary range: $170,000 – $206,000Annual performance-based and billable hours bonusesMainly Remote - Must reside in CA!Reasonable billable hour expectationsCompetitive health insurance benefits and 401(k) with partial matchStrong mentorship and long-term career development opportunitiesThis opportunity offers meaningful client interaction, sophisticated public sector work, and the chance to serve as a trusted advisor to public agencies throughout California while working in a collaborative and supportive environment.Qualified candidates are encouraged to apply through Direct Counsel.
