Multi-Modality Technologist 2 – Southern Virginia Regional Medical Center

Job Summary

The primary responsibility of a multi-modality technologist is to perform any two imaging modalities in combination, with related techniques, producing images for interpretation by, and at the request of, a licensed independent practitioner.

Essential Functions

  • Performs duties for any 2 imaging modalities (e.g., XR, CT, MRI).
  • Meets continuing education or clinical requirements as required by regulatory standards.
  • Operates equipment, accessories and is knowledgeable in workflows, procedures and processes of the two imaging modalities.
  • Selects appropriate imaging sequences with consideration of approved protocols and data acquisition parameters.
  • Obtains patient clinical history and appropriate lab work, ensuring information is documented and available for use by a licensed practitioner. Uses a POC device for lab work when applicable.
  • Applies safety principles to minimize risk to patient, self and others, protecting image quality and equipment integrity.
  • Provides radiation protection and modality-specific safety for the patient and others.
  • Verifies patient identification using two identifiers and confirms the procedure requested or prescribed.
  • When required by a modality, performs venipuncture and maintains/removes intravenous access.
  • Prepares and/or administers medications/contrast as prescribed by a licensed practitioner when required.
  • Uses a power injector for administration of medication with approved vascular access device; follows manufacturer guidelines for infusion rates and pressure.
  • Scheduled on-call as required.

Education

  • Associate's degree from an ARRT-accredited program or an approved Nuclear Medicine Technology program or School of Ultrasound/Medical Sonography (preferred).

Required Licensing & Certifications

  • Certification and Registration with ARRT or RDMS or CNMT (required).
  • Competency in two of the following areas with certification within 12 months: Bone Densitometry, Breast Sonography, Radiologic Technology, CT, MRI, Ultrasonography, Nuclear Medicine, Cardiovascular/Interventional Radiography (grandfathered), Cardiac Interventional Radiography, Cardiac Sonographer, Vascular Interventional Radiography, Mammography, Vascular Sonography, RVT.
  • Class A CDL or Class B CDL for locations with mobile mammography program (where applicable).
  • BLS Basic Life Support (required at hire for certain locations; preferred at hire, required prior to independent patient care at some sites).
  • State licensure (preferred, unless required by state).

Experience

  • 1 year of experience in a healthcare environment (preferred).

  • EPIC EHR, PACS, RIS, IV contrast administration
