Responsibilities
- Develop, initiate, and monitor procedures for effective utilization of the MRI unit.
- Perform daily quality assurance procedures and equipment cleaning.
- Identify and report system problems to supervisory personnel.
- Contact service engineers or initiate internal support for problematic situations.
- Set up and adjust equipment as instructed by the radiologist, including coils, injectors, and monitors.
- Configure work‑station control console settings for exam parameters.
- Accept patients, assess their condition, and determine proper handling and safety screening.
- Explain procedures to patients and ensure they are prepared for the exam.
- Assist with or directly perform administration of chemical agents to enhance imaging of specific organs or structures.
- Prepare contrast agents according to dosage chart specifications and perform/monitor IV access.
- Review patient charts and discuss with the radiologist to ensure appropriate examination and additional sequences.
- Coordinate with patient units to ensure timely transport and completion of exam requests.
- Prepare images and paperwork for radiology interpretation.
- Conduct quality control on all images, maintain inventory, and adhere to safety regulations.
- Participate in training of department personnel, including students.
- Check inventory of contrast, IV supplies, and paper products daily and notify the department supervisor of needs.
- Use extensive knowledge of anatomy and physiology to obtain maximum diagnostic images.
- Review exam requests to determine area of interest and refer to exam guidelines and protocols.
- Apply safety awareness by fostering a culture of safety and following all safety policies.
- Perform final verification of patient, procedure, site, and information before invasive procedures.
- Verify patients according to policy prior to administration of care, procedures, or medications.
- Follow approved procedures for verifying medical orders, including verbal readback to the licensed independent practitioner.
- Adhere to CDC hand hygiene guidelines, PPE guidelines, respiratory etiquette, universal precautions, and electrical safety guidelines.
- Appropriately dispose of hazardous materials.
Minimum Education
- Preferred formal training in Radiology Technology from an AMA approved program.
Minimum Work Experience
Minimum of one (1) year radiologic experience.
M.R.I. Experience Preference
- A*RR* (MR) – American Registry Radiologic Technologists (Magnetic Resonance Imaging)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification or BLS Instructor
- Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Certification or ACLS Instructor
- Every other weekend: 6:30 am – 7:00 pm
License/Registration/Certification Requirements
- ACLS (AHA) Advanced Cardiac Life Support Certification – American Heart Association (AHA) (including courses offered through SSH)
- Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification – American Heart Association (AHA) (including courses offered through SSH)
- Instructor – Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) (including courses offered through SSH)
- Instructor – Basic Life Support (BLS) – American Heart Association (AHA) (including courses offered through SSH)
- MRI – The American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT)
