Job Summary
Your job is more than a job. As an MRI Technologist, you are responsible for performing MRI/MRA exams, ensuring quality standards, and maintaining patient safety. You will operate equipment, calibrate machines, select coils, interpret orders, and maintain accurate records.
Responsibilities
- Perform the technical aspects of MRI/MRA, selecting the correct acquisition parameters and performing daily calibrations.
- Select appropriate coils to reduce noise and maximize resolution.
- Review physician orders with the radiologist to ensure the proper examinations are obtained.
- Ensure patient safety, assess their condition, and handle special requirements.
- Obtain and review patient history, explain procedures to patients/families, and answer questions to ease anxiety and assure cooperation.
- Recognize and address clinical or emergent problems that may interfere with the exam, taking appropriate action.
- Administer parenteral contrast agents safely.
- Acquire and evaluate patient lab values to confirm they are within normal limits (BUN, CR, pregnancy, glucose) when applicable.
- Disinfect equipment and maintain exam rooms and work areas in a neat, safe condition; check and inspect equipment daily for hazards or malfunctions, reporting dangerous conditions promptly.
- Maintain supply levels and perform quality control checks.
- Use sterile technique for procedures, practice aseptic techniques, and adhere to hospital policy on body substance isolation.
- Input and verify all data sent to and verified in PACS/RIS.
- Observe and monitor the patient’s vital signs and medical equipment attached during the procedure.
Requirements and Certifications
- Radiography Certification (ARRT) – American Registry of Radiologic Technologists.
- MRI Certification (ARRT (MRI)) – Louisiana State Radiologic Technology Board of Examiners (LSRTBE).
- Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (CPR, BLS) – American Heart Association.
