Position: Imaging Sciences‑MRI Technician (Regular, Full time)

Location: 601 Elmwood Ave, Rochester, NY 14642

Hours: 40 hours per week, Monday‑Friday 2:30 PM–11:00 PM

Shift: Evening (U.S.)

Compensation: $33.33 – $43.33 per hour

Responsibilities

• Set up and utilize all MRI equipment, including imaging coils, patient monitoring systems, and related apparatus.
• Evaluate image quality by troubleshooting scanner or coil problems and adjusting scan parameters.
• Identify and compensate for imaging artifacts.
• Review MRI registration and screening forms to confirm safe access into the magnet room.
• Assist in training new MRI technologists and students.
• Perform filming, archiving, and PACS network data management for each patient scanned.
• Retrieve old MRI data for restoration and filing/networking.
• Master new techniques with each scanner upgrade.
• Maintain CE credits and ARRT/NYS license.
• Communicate all pertinent patient information to necessary staff.

Typical Duties

• Identify patient service requirements.
• Educate patients/families regarding procedures and/or treatments to be performed.
• Prepare patients for radiological/MRI procedures by positioning, adjusting immobilization devices, and manipulating equipment controls.
• Perform procedures by following and verifying referring provider orders.
• Apply learned methodologies according to established policies and procedures.
• Produce high-quality images and prepare/present them with other pertinent patient information for timely interpretation.
• Prepare and maintain accurate documentation.
• Maintain production and quality of MRI images by following established standards, orders, protocols, and procedures.
• Maintain a safe environment for patients, personnel, and visitors by adhering to MRI safety policies specific to our MRI zones.
• Perform and evaluate equipment quality control measurements.
• Troubleshoot and notify appropriate personnel to maintain equipment performance.
• At an advanced level, may train new employees or lead day‑to‑day work activities.

Qualifications

• Completion of formal training in an approved School of Radiologic Technology.
• Maintains current NYS licensure and ARRT certification with required CE credits.

Career Ladder

• Band One (I): Non‑Certified MRI Technologist – requires training and regular supervision; responsible for scanning, documentation, and patient discharge.
• Band Two (II): Certified MRI Technologist – minimal supervision; responsible for scanning, documentation, and patient discharge; 18‑month experience required, 6 months in URMC Imaging Sciences department.
• Band Three (III): Advanced MRI Technologist – preceptor for new hires, subject matter expert for downtime procedures, independent scanning and documentation; 4‑year experience required with 1 year in URMC Imaging Sciences preferred.

Band Three technologists may be designated as Leads to support operations on various shifts and may provide performance evaluation input to the section supervisor and MRI management. Advancement is assessed by the MRI manager and supervisor after demonstrating proficiency as defined in the career ladder. External hires may enter at Band Three to serve in a Lead role if needed.
