Salary

Hourly rate: $38.31 – $53.63. Placement within the range depends on relevant work experience, internal equity, and, where applicable, collective bargaining agreements for union‑represented positions.

Description

The MRI Technologist supports Northwestern Medicine’s mission to deliver world‑class patient care by ensuring safe, high‑quality imaging services. The role requires adherence to all relevant policies, regulations, and accreditation standards while fostering a positive patient experience.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain accountability for patient safety throughout the MRI process, including screening, preparation, monitoring, and post‑procedure care.
  • Perform MRI safety screening, including implant and foreign body evaluation, and ensure appropriate clearance before magnetic field exposure.
  • Enforce controlled access and safe practices within the MRI environment.
  • Produce diagnostic‑quality MRI images using approved protocols and professional standards.
  • Apply professional judgment within approved protocols to optimize image quality and address imaging challenges.
  • Review images prior to exam completion and initiate corrective action when diagnostic adequacy is not met.
  • Administer contrast in accordance with policy, including screening, IV access when required, monitoring, and response to adverse events.
  • Operate imaging equipment and maintain imaging room readiness.
  • Identify equipment performance issues and initiate follow‑up through established service processes.
  • Coordinate exam flow and prioritize time‑sensitive studies.
  • Maintain accurate and timely documentation in EPIC and Visage, including exam set‑up, image routing, result availability, and charging accuracy.
  • Adhere to organizational values, ethical standards, certifications, and compliance requirements.
  • Consistently uphold all applicable quality and safety standards within diagnostic imaging, such as radiation safety, MRI safety, and infection prevention measures.
  • Ensure a positive patient experience throughout care delivery.
  • Support department initiatives to improve relationships, reliability, efficiency, and growth, and perform additional responsibilities aligned with patient care and department needs.

Qualifications – Required

  • Graduate of an accredited Radiology Technologist Program.
  • Certification as an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) or American Registry of MRI Technologist (ARMRIT).
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
