Responsibilities
- Demonstrate the ability to obtain quality MRI images of patients.
- Comply with MRI safety guidelines for patients, staff and self.
- Operate MRI equipment safely, including screening all patients for contraindications.
- Perform all necessary computer operations.
- Render patient care in a professional and courteous manner and always identify patients using the proper protocols.
- Prepare MRI scanner and perform quality control tests.
- Assist the radiology nurse or radiologist in administering medication, contrast agents, and all types of care to the patient during MRI procedures.
- Review each exam for technical accuracy and identify anatomical orientation on all images.
- Demonstrate willingness to assist in additional duties.
- Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
- Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employees and patients.
- Complete and maintain educational requirements.
Experience
- Required: Minimum of 1 year experience as MRI Technologist.
- Preferred: Multiple years’ experience as a certified staff MRI Technologist.
Education
- Required: Graduate of accredited approved School of Radiologic Technology. Responsible for continuing education credits as mandated by the ARRT for licensure.
Licensing and Certification
- Required: American Registry of Radiologic Technology OR ARRT‑MRI Technology (6‑month grace period) OR American Registry of MRI Technology ARMRIT (6‑month grace period).
- BLS for Healthcare Providers through AHA or CPR through American Red Cross (30‑day grace period).
- Preferred: American Society of Radiologic Technology; Virginia Society of Radiologic Technology.
