MRI Technologist

Responsibilities

• Demonstrate the ability to obtain quality MRI images of patients.
• Comply with MRI safety guidelines for patients, staff and self.
• Operate MRI equipment safely, including screening all patients for contraindications.
• Perform all necessary computer operations.
• Render patient care in a professional and courteous manner and always identify patients using the proper protocols.
• Prepare MRI scanner and perform quality control tests.
• Assist the radiology nurse or radiologist in administering medication, contrast agents, and all types of care to the patient during MRI procedures.
• Review each exam for technical accuracy and identify anatomical orientation on all images.
• Demonstrate willingness to assist in additional duties.
• Maintain work area in a clean and orderly manner.
• Maintain strict confidentiality regarding employees and patients.
• Complete and maintain educational requirements.

Experience

• Required: Minimum of 1 year experience as MRI Technologist.
• Preferred: Multiple years’ experience as a certified staff MRI Technologist.

Education

• Required: Graduate of accredited approved School of Radiologic Technology. Responsible for continuing education credits as mandated by the ARRT for licensure.

Licensing and Certification

• Required: American Registry of Radiologic Technology OR ARRT‑MRI Technology (6‑month grace period) OR American Registry of MRI Technology ARMRIT (6‑month grace period).
• BLS for Healthcare Providers through AHA or CPR through American Red Cross (30‑day grace period).
• Preferred: American Society of Radiologic Technology; Virginia Society of Radiologic Technology.
