MRI Technologist at Lexington Medical Center
Full Time. Shift: 5:30 p.m. – 6:00 a.m. (Thu, Fri, Sat). Sign‑On Bonus: Up to $15,000.
Job Summary
Performs magnetic resonance imaging scans of selected portions of the anatomy as requested by the clinician.
Minimum Qualifications
- Education: Graduate of an AMA‑approved School of Radiologic Technology or completion of an MRI program.
- Years of Experience: None.
- Certifications/Licensure: CPR certification (or obtain within 90 days); ARRT certification; MRI certification (or obtain within 1 year).
- Training: Proficiency in venipuncture; 3‑to‑6‑month training period to become familiar with equipment and departmental procedures.
Essential Functions
- Demonstrate competence in providing developmentally appropriate care to patients ranging from infancy to geriatric ages.
- Perform detailed safety screening of all patients with respect to metallic foreign bodies, implants, or medical devices and obtain a signed MRI patient screening form when possible.
- Check EMR for correct order, contraindications, and other precautions.
- Prepare patients for MRI procedures and use universal precautions on all patients.
- Inform patients of the process to be followed during the exam.
- Observe patient condition while in the MRI Department and contact appropriate personnel as needed.
- Recognize emergency patient conditions and take appropriate actions.
- Provide pertinent information to the radiologist to contribute to the plan of care.
- Position patients on the MRI table and use proper imaging equipment (MRI coils, MRI‑conditional monitoring equipment).
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide hearing protection for everyone in the MRI exam room.
- Maintain cleanliness of the MRI Department and equipment; use proper cleaning technique, dispose of contaminated needles properly, and maintain adequate stock of linen and supplies.
- Assist with patient transport as necessary.
- Perform optimal quality MRI scans according to radiologist’s protocols.
- Make appropriate decisions based on judgment within the scope of your ability on technical or patient‑related problems and notify appropriate personnel.
- Assist in quality control of the equipment by contacting appropriate personnel and notifying the department supervisor as necessary.
- Electronically send images to the appropriate destination including PACS.
- Perform all other duties as assigned by authorized personnel or as required in an emergency (e.g., fire or disaster).
- Responsible for on‑call, weekend, alternate shift, and holiday work on a rotating basis or as needed.
- Be proficient in starting IVs and injecting contrast for certain procedures.
- Practice and implement good service excellence at all times; be caring, patient, and helpful in relieving anxiety during MRI procedures.
- Be able to monitor and teach MRI students.
- Assist radiologists with biopsies and specialty procedures requiring aseptic techniques.
