LHH Recruitment Solutions is seeking a Mobile Fleet Technician Lead for a direct-hire opportunity with a well-established organization supporting fleet operations throughout eastern and central North Carolina.

This is a unique opportunity for an experienced A-level fleet technician who enjoys troubleshooting, variety, autonomy, and serving as a technical resource for other technicians.

Unlike a traditional shop-based technician position, this role supports a diverse fleet across multiple locations and equipment types, including tractors, trailers, material handling equipment (MHE), auxiliary vehicles, and equipment from multiple manufacturers.

The position requires regular travel between Rocky Mount, Goldsboro, Elizabeth City, and Garner, NC and includes a dedicated mobile service setup equipped with parts and tools to support maintenance and repair needs in the field.

  • Up to $40/hour
  • Time-and-a-half overtime for hours worked over 40
  • Typical workweek averages approximately 40–42 hours
  • Higher-volume weeks may reach approximately 43–47 hours
  • Typical start time is around 5:30 AM, with 6:00 AM generally being the latest start
  • Some travel or emergency-service days may extend later depending on operational needs and road calls

What You'll Do

  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on fleet equipment across multiple locations
  • Complete major and minor repairs in both shop and field environments

  • Prioritize mobile service needs across several locations
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and support to other fleet technicians
  • Communicate fleet status and service activity with management
  • Help strengthen the overall technical capabilities of the fleet maintenance team

What We're Looking For

  • 8 ASE certifications OR 10+ years of relevant fleet maintenance experience
  • Active CDL Class A required
  • Brake certification required
  • Advanced fleet diagnostic and troubleshooting experience
  • Strong diesel repair background
  • Experience working with gasoline and propane fuel systems
  • Experience with air, hydraulic, and electric braking systems

  • Vehicle HVAC diagnostic and repair experience
  • Experience with battery-powered industrial or material handling equipment

  • Strong communication, documentation, and organizational skills
  • Ability to coach and provide technical guidance to other technicians
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid DOT physical
  • Flexibility to travel regularly between supported locations and adjust priorities based on operational needs

Why Consider This Opportunity?

This is not a standard fleet mechanic position. The successful candidate will serve as a go-to mobile technical resource, working across a wide variety of equipment and locations while helping keep critical fleet operations running safely and efficiently.

You'll have the opportunity to work independently, solve complex diagnostic problems, support and develop other technicians, and continue expanding your technical capabilities through exposure to new equipment, diagnostic tools, software platforms, and manufacturer-specific systems.
