Position Summary
The MLL/Library Para-Educator provides instructional, organizational, and student support across two important areas of the school. Approximately 50% of the position is dedicated to supporting Multilingual Learners (MLLs) in accessing academic instruction and developing their English language skills, while approximately 50% of the position supports the daily operation of the Library Media Center.
The successful candidate will be flexible, collaborative, student-centered, and able to build positive relationships with students and staff. This position works under the direction of certified teachers, the MLL teacher/coordinator, library/media staff, and school administration.
MLL Responsibilities - 0.5 Position
  • Provide individual and small-group support to Multilingual Learners under the direction of the MLL specialist and classroom teachers.
  • Support students in accessing grade-level curriculum by reinforcing vocabulary, concepts, directions, and academic language.
  • Assist students with reading, writing, speaking, and listening activities designed by certified staff.
  • Provide appropriate scaffolds and supports while encouraging students to develop independence and confidence.
  • Support MLL students within general education classrooms as assigned.
Library Media Center Responsibilities - 0.5 Position
  • Assist with the daily operation and organization of the Library Media Center.
  • Support students in locating, checking out, returning, and appropriately using library materials.
  • Check materials in and out using the library circulation system.
  • Shelve and organize books and other materials accurately and efficiently.
  • Assist with maintaining an orderly, welcoming, and student-centered library environment.
  • Prepare, process, label, cover, repair, and organize library materials.
  • Assist with inventory, collection organization, displays, and other library projects.
  • Perform clerical and organizational tasks associated with the operation of the Library Media Center.
Qualifications
  • High school diploma or equivalent required; additional education or training preferred.
  • Experience working with school-aged children preferred.
  • Experience working with multilingual learners or individuals from diverse linguistic and cultural backgrounds is preferred.
  • Experience in a school library, public library, educational setting, or similar organizational environment is helpful.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple responsibilities.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Basic technology skills and willingness to learn school and library management systems.
  • Patience, flexibility, professionalism, and a genuine interest in supporting middle school students.
