Summary

The Millwright & Mechanical Field Service Manager is responsible for estimating, planning, scheduling, and supporting the execution of mechanical and millwright field projects. This position will estimate field-service opportunities, assign and manage Field Supervisors, and coordinate the labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractors necessary to successfully execute projects.

This is a highly field-focused position requiring approximately 90% travel to customer facilities and active project sites. A company vehicle and company gas card will be provided.

The ideal candidate is highly organized, understands industrial construction and field operations, communicates effectively with customers and internal teams, and can manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accountability for project cost, schedule, safety, quality, and profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop estimates for millwright, mechanical, equipment installation, demolition, piping, and other field-service projects.
  • Review drawings, specifications, scopes of work, and customer requirements to determine labor, equipment, material, and subcontractor needs.
  • Perform customer site visits and project walkdowns as required.
  • Develop labor-hour estimates, schedules, equipment requirements, and subcontractor scopes.
  • Identify project risks, exclusions, assumptions, and potential scope gaps prior to submitting estimates.
  • Assist with proposal development and scope clarification with customers.
Field Operations & Supervision
  • Assign qualified Field Supervisors and field personnel based on project scope, schedule, and manpower requirements.
  • Provide Field Supervisors with clear project scopes, schedules, expectations, and execution plans.
  • Maintain regular communication with Field Supervisors regarding project progress, manpower, safety, schedule, and customer needs.
  • Monitor active projects and assist supervisors in resolving field issues.
  • Ensure field teams properly document labor, equipment usage, subcontractor activity, change orders, and additional work.
  • Promote a strong culture of safety, accountability, quality, and customer service.
Scheduling & Resource Coordination
  • Coordinate manpower requirements across current and upcoming projects.
  • Assist with scheduling and procurement of project materials, rental equipment, tools, lifts, cranes, and other field resources.
  • Coordinate subcontractors and ensure their scope, schedule, safety requirements, and project expectations are clearly communicated.
  • Work closely with Project Management, Fabrication, Purchasing, and Operations to ensure field projects are properly supported.
  • Maintain visibility of upcoming workload and communicate resource constraints before they impact project schedules.
Cost Control & Project Profitability
  • Maintain ownership and visibility of project financial performance from estimate through execution and closeout.
  • Monitor actual labor, equipment, material, subcontractor, and travel costs against estimated project costs.
  • Identify cost overruns, scope changes, and schedule impacts early and communicate corrective actions.
  • Ensure additional work and scope changes are properly documented, priced, and submitted for customer approval.
  • Review completed projects against original estimates to identify estimating and execution improvements.
  • Work with management to improve field-service margins, productivity, and overall project profitability.
Customer & Project Management
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for field-service opportunities and project execution as required.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, vendors, and subcontractors.
  • Communicate project status, schedule changes, additional work, and potential issues in a timely manner.
  • Participate in project closeout and lessons-learned reviews to improve future estimating and execution.
Qualifications & Skills
  • Previous experience in millwright, mechanical, industrial construction, equipment installation, or field service required.
  • Strong understanding of industrial jobsite operations, labor planning, equipment requirements, and project execution.
  • Experience estimating mechanical and/or millwright projects strongly preferred.
  • Previous experience leading Field Supervisors, Foremen, or field crews preferred.
  • Strong understanding of project costs, budgets, and job profitability.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to manage multiple active projects.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
  • Working knowledge of AutoCAD software, including the ability to review, interpret, and make basic modifications to project drawings and layouts.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, and project scopes.
  • Must be comfortable with approximately 90% travel to customer facilities and project sites.
  • Valid driver's license and ability to operate a company-provided vehicle.
  • Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.
Travel & Company Resources
  • This position requires approximately 90% travel, primarily supporting customer facilities, project walkdowns, active installations, and field-service operations. A company vehicle and company gas card will be provided for business-related travel. Additional travel expenses will be handled in accordance with company policy.

  • Successful candidates will be organized, proactive, accountable, and comfortable making decisions in a fast-paced field-service environment. This position requires someone who can balance estimating future work with supporting active projects while keeping Field Supervisors and resources aligned with company and customer expectations.
  • The Field Service Manager is expected to take ownership of projects from estimate through execution and closeout, with a focus on safety, planning, communication, cost control, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
