Military Writing Specialist

Role Overview

Apply military and federal writing expertise to help train and evaluate next-generation AI systems. This remote contract role focuses on creating, reviewing, and assessing reports and communications that reflect authentic Department of Defense processes, documentation standards, and compliance practices. Prior AI experience is not required.

Key Responsibilities

• Create realistic military and federal status reports, summaries, and executive updates from prompts and supplied materials.
• Develop high-quality, standards-aligned example responses for AI training.
• Draft grading rubrics and assessment guidelines for federal and military writing.
• Evaluate AI-generated reports and provide detailed written and verbal feedback.
• Explain stylistic differences and approaches for common military documents, including Weekly Activity Reports, Situation Reports, After-Action Reviews, and executive summaries.
• Prepare supporting materials such as decision briefs, memoranda, and action officer updates as needed.
• Collaborate remotely with subject matter experts to represent varied reporting styles and branch-specific terminology.

Qualifications

• Former U.S. Department of Defense professional with at least 3 years of relevant experience.
• Experience producing templated or standardized reports, including WARs, SITREPs, After-Action Reviews, or comparable artifacts.
• Strong military writing, federal documentation, report generation, evaluation, rubric-development, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to create, grade, and review military or federal back-office documents, PowerPoint presentations, memoranda, and spreadsheets.
• Broad familiarity with federal documentation standards, Department of Defense procedures, and compliance best practices.
• Experience across two or more U.S. military branches is preferred; varied role backgrounds are valued.
• Comfort working collaboratively in a remote environment on detailed, procedural reporting work.

Work Terms

• Contract engagement.
• Remote, United States only.

Compensation

• $40 to $80 per hour.
