Pinao is seekinga Mid‑Level Epidemiologist to support the Vision Center of Excellence (VCE). TheVCE develops and implements research and programmatic efforts to optimizediagnosis, prevention, mitigation, rehabilitation, and treatment of injuriesand disorders affecting the visual system of Service Members and Veterans. Thisprocess involves identification and application of evidence-based bestpractices, collaboration among various stakeholders, and use of informationmanagement systems to improve vision outcomes for all Service Members andVeterans treated by the DoD and VA. This position serves as a member of the Epidemiology Team at the VCEand provides epidemiologic and analytic support to VCE operations.

DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Provide subject matterexpertise in epidemiology and research methods to support projects andrelated program needs.
• Provide analyticsupport by performing statistical analysis using R, Python, or otherdesignated statistical analysis software.
• Perform descriptiveand inferential analyses and use data visualization to present findings atmeetings and/or in reports or manuscripts.
• Conduct data cleaningand data wrangling of data pulled from select DHA information systems suchas the MHS Mart (M2) and the Defense and Veterans Eye Injury and VisionRegistry (DVEIVR).
• Assist with review ofinternal and external data requests that require epidemiologic analysis.
• Collaborate with VCEclinicians and other stakeholders to determine study objectives,hypotheses, and methods for their proposed research, and apply appropriatestatistical metrics, such as disease incidence/prevalence, risk ratios,correlations, and time-to-event analysis.
• Work with other VCEteams as needed to facilitate data collection, data management, and dataquality control ensure a systematic response to data requests.
• Attend meetings withclinicians and other team members as needed for consultation.
• Work with team membersto troubleshoot programming issues.
• Ensure data integrityand data security in handling and management of data.

Requirements

Skills /Qualifications:

• Proven record of epidemiologicinvestigations with specific experience in ocular trauma and vision-threateningconditions.
• Experience inworking with clinical related data and conducting epidemiologic andbio-statistical analysis.
• Extensiveexperience in data analysis and research methods.
• Intermediate oradvanced analytical capabilities.
• Experience inapplied epidemiology and statistics including survival analysis, generalizedlinear model, causal inference, and data visualization.
• Strong skillsinanalyzing complex data from multiple sources and data wrangling using theprogramming language R.
• Effectivecommunications in multidisciplinary collaboration.
• Proficiency at preparingclear and concise reports, manuscripts, and other written materials.

Education:

• Master’s Degreein statistics, epidemiology, or a related field; AND three (3) years ofexperience in performing epidemiological analyses; OR an equivalent combinationof education, training, and experience.

SecurityClearance:

• DoD Secret Security Clearance is required.

Life Insurance:

The Life Insurance Policy is administered by LincolnFinancial CA. Pinao pays for full coverage for each eligible employee at one(1) times the rate of their annual salary, rounded to the next higher $1,000;subject to a minimum of $10,000 and a maximum of $200,000.

Short-Term Disability:

Short-Term Disability Insurance is providedby Lincoln Financial CA. Pinao pays 60% of the premium for each eligibleemployee up to $2,000.

Long-Term Disability Insurance:

DisabilityInsurance is provided by Lincoln Financial CA. Pinao pays 60% of the premium for each eligible employee up to $9,000.

401K:

Pinao provides a 401K plan through Betterment.Pinao pays for all administration fees and provides matching funds up to 4% ofa participating employees’ gross income.

Temporary duty:

(TwoWeeks–80hours)MilitaryLeave: In additionto the rights and benefits provided to Employees taking Extended Military,eligible Employees who must be absent from their job for a period of not morethan ten working days each year in order to participate in temporary militaryduty are entitled to as many as ten days paid military leave.
