Mid-Level SQL Server Database Administrator II

Employment: Full-Time, W-2

Location: Remote

Pay: $66.87-$69.50/hour W-2

Status: Contingent upon contract award and Government approval

Anticipated Start: November 16, 2026

Contract: Initial 10.5 months with four 12-month options, potentially through September 2031

Position Overview

SMX is seeking an experienced SQL Server DBA to support enterprise database operations for the U.S. Government Publishing Office. The role focuses on hands-on SQL Server administration, production support, high availability, backup/recovery, performance tuning, security, patching, and troubleshooting.  

 

Requirements

  • 4+ years of database administration experience
  • Strong hands-on Microsoft SQL Server administration
  • Strong SQL and T-SQL skills
  • SQL Server installation, configuration, upgrades, and patching
  • Backup, restore, and point-in-time recovery
  • High Availability, Disaster Recovery, and SQL Server clustering
  • Performance tuning, query optimization, and execution-plan analysis
  • Database security, users, roles, permissions, and auditing
  • Production monitoring and incident troubleshooting
  • Administrative scripting and automation
  • Experience supporting development, test, staging, and production environments

 

Key Responsibilities

Administer and maintain SQL Server environments; monitor availability and performance; manage backups and recovery; support clustering and DR; perform patching and upgrades; troubleshoot production incidents; manage database security; develop T-SQL/PowerShell automation; and maintain technical documentation and ServiceNow records. 

Experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, MariaDB, Oracle, Microsoft Access, or cloud databases is a plus. Relevant Microsoft SQL Server, Azure, or database certifications are strongly preferred.
