Mental Health Professional II Masters

The Mental Health Professional II facilitates high quality, patient-centered care by providing supervised mental health services to patients and their families. The Mental Health Professional II performs assessments, psycho-education, process groups, treatment planning, discharge planning and therapeutic counseling support through evidenced based interventions in individual, family, and group therapy. This role primarily supports Methodists 74-bed secure unit and outpatient clinical patients at Methodist Specialty and Transplant Hospital location.

What you will do in this Role:

• Conducts individual, group and family psychoeducational and process groups.
• Develops treatment plans and attends treatment planning meetings and reviews on an ongoing basis.
• Assesses environment and patient's safety status and reports/responds to actual and potential safety issues or changes in the patients condition.
• Identifies risk factors, screening criteria and interventions for patients with special precautions (e.g., suicide, homicide, falls, elopement). Completes assessments, group notes and all other documentation promptly and in compliance with requirements, as appropriate to scope.
• Collaborates with the multidisciplinary team to assess and coordinate patient's discharge planning needs and readiness for discharge.
• Conducts post-discharge follow-up as indicated.
• Evaluates re-admissions for gaps in discharge planning processes.
• Formulates a plan and implements new strategies.
• Develops and maintains a community resource guide including access to public assistance/alternatives.
• Facilitates and participates in Community Education, Activities and Support Groups, as appropriate to scope.
• Contributes to ensuring a safe, structured milieu with evidence-based treatment modalities/resources.
• Identifies cultural considerations, gender identity and preferred language for patients and family.
• Demonstrates appropriate application of age/developmental stage specific standards, policies and procedures, and guidelines in assessing and treating patients to ensure patient safety.
• Maintains active and timely communication with patients, families, multidisciplinary team and continuum of care providers.
• Maintains professionalism and uses good communication skills in interacting with peers, staff, patients, families and in resolving conflicts.
• Demonstrates understanding of and ability to maintain clear professional boundaries with peers, patients and families.
• Understands state commitment processes, abuse reporting requirements, duty to warn and guardianship processes.
• Demonstrates knowledge and role in hospital codes.
• Serves as an educational resource to patients, families, interdisciplinary team members, payer representatives, and other parties as appropriate regarding behavioral services.
• Reviews, coaches, and assists with training of new staff/interns as assigned within approved practice and program guidelines.
• Participates in developing department goals/objectives and clinical programming. Performs utilization review as assigned.
• Assists with Process and Quality Improvement initiatives.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

What qualifications you will need:

• Masters Degree in Social Work or related field required.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) and Crisis Prevention Intervention certifications required within 30 days.
• Experience in mental health or related field preferred.
• Licensed Clinical Social Worker (LCSW), or Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW), or Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC), or Licensed Family Therapist (LFT) preferred.
