Medical Support Assistant Duties
Receives visitors and telephone calls to the clinic and directs calls to the appropriate party.
Transfers orders for patient activities, diets, treatments and tests to a wide variety of forms (some electronic) and routes them to the appropriate department for action.
Functions as the timekeeper for the clinic. Processes computer generated timecards for unit employees, which includes a variety of employment situations (e.g., full-time, part-time, temporary).
Initiates a new health record by interviewing patients. Enters information into the RPMS Patient Registration System and prints appropriate forms. Informs Medical Records to reactivate a retired/stored record.
Arranges appointments for patients with specialty clinics, contract services and consultants. Coordinates appointments in a timely manner to avoid conflicts in patient treatment.
Maintains various registers such as Diabetes, Immunization, and other health conditions as needed by the medical home team.
Notifies patients via telephone and/or in writing of missed clinic appointments and other needs as guided by the medical home team.
Assist with preparing reports and secures completion of report on time. Forwards completed reports to supervisor or medical home team approval.
Assist with maintaining equipment and supply orders and works with designated staff, Property and Supply, Maintenance Department, or Administration at Fort Yuma Service Unit.
Types and reproduces special notices, work sheets, and related educational material used by the Primary Care clinic. Maintains and keeps current various IHS and Primary Care manuals.
