Medical Social Worker – Full Time

Location: BBC Bronson Battle Creek (Bronson Obstetrics & Gynecology Specialists – Battle Creek/Marshall)

Shift: First Shift

Hours: 40 hours per week

Compensation: $10,000 Sign‑On/Retention Bonus ($5,000.00 for external candidates)

Responsibilities

• Deliver social work services in hospital medical areas to diverse patient populations, including mental health, suicide, domestic violence, sexual assault, child/adult abuse/neglect, death/grief, crisis intervention, advocacy, and substance abuse.
• Perform assessments, interventions, and discharge planning; provide counseling on community resources.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and external agencies to determine best course of action and ensure timely discharge to psychiatric facilities, substance abuse treatment, or other appropriate services.
• Coordinate care management and behavioral health services in ambulatory settings for pediatric, adolescent, adult, and geriatric patients.
• Administer behavioral health screenings, conduct detailed assessments, and deliver brief interventions to support lifestyle and behavioral changes.
• Respond to crisis situations and identify high‑risk psychosocial needs.
• Maintain accurate documentation in patient records and participate in policy development.
• Provide mentoring to students and assume responsibility for professional development.
• For assignments at Bronson Lakeview Hospital and Bronson South Haven Hospital, complete the yearly “Swing Beds” CBL and ensure accurate documentation differences for swing bed patients.
• Execute recipient rights duties: protect patient rights, provide education, maintain records, investigate violations, and report annually to state and governing bodies.

Physical Demands

• Work often involves mental and visual fatigue due to detailed, repetitive tasks requiring sustained concentration.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally assist with heavier items.

Qualifications

• Master’s Degree in Social Work or related field.
• Licensed Master’s Social Worker (LMSW) or Limited‑License MSW (LLMSW) in good standing; alternatively, Master’s in Psychology or Counseling Psychology with LP, LPC, or LLPC/LLPC.
• Must be fully licensed within two years of hire, meeting state supervision hours and licensing exam requirements.
• 1–2 years professional experience in healthcare or mental health (preferred).
• Current driver’s license in Michigan and proof of insurance.
• Demonstrated communication, human‑relations, advocacy, negotiation, and conflict resolution skills.
• Proficiency with basic word processing and ability to navigate hospital units.
