Medical Laboratory Technologist

Job Summary

Perform laboratory analysis on received specimens to provide clinical information for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of diseases. Ensure overall quality, efficiency, and safety in the performance of assigned technical duties.

Essential Functions

• Demonstrate proficiency and adherence to testing procedures and policies, following quality assurance guidelines for equipment and work area.
• Document corrective actions for any non-conforming events.
• Prepare reagents, maintain an adequate supply of materials for test procedures, and manage inventory to effectively reduce departmental waste and expense.
• Exercise clinical judgment in assessing priorities, identifying problems, and offering solutions to test systems through appropriate department channels.
• Assist with the review and revision of procedures and documentation related to accreditation, adhering to all regulatory requirements including CAP, TJC, and OSHA.
• Maintain clear, real-time communications shift-to-shift and with leadership regarding issues, concerns, and problems that may affect patient care or department operations.
• Participate in planning and implementing change through staff meetings, task forces, or projects.
• Participate in the competency assessment program, where qualified.

Physical Requirements

Work in a fast-paced clinical environment with exposure to biohazardous (infectious) materials along with chemical, fire, and mechanical hazards. Duties may involve standing, walking, stretching, stooping, bending, and lifting light (20-pound) to moderately heavy (50-pound) loads.

Skills and Qualifications

• Associate's degree required.
• MLT registry eligible or equivalent required.
• MLT (ASCP) or equivalent required within one year of hire.
