The Medical Center serves Veterans in Allegany, Chemung, Schuyler, Steuben, and Yates counties in NY, as well as Veterans in Tioga and Potter counties in Pennsylvania. The Medical Center, founded in 1878 as a Grand Army of the Republic Soldiers and Sailors Home has proudly served Veterans for more than 130 years. The facility provides a full range of patient care services. Building 76, 2nd FL. Lab, Bath, NY 14810ResponsibilitiesThe MLT shall perform a full range of services in the specialty, including the most difficult cases. Services may include but are not limited to the following.Provide laboratory specimen collection, processing, testing and reporting services for eligible patients (Pediatrics, adults and elderly)Collection of specimens from patients and preparation of specimens for routine testing or packaging them for referral to reference laboratoryPerforms/monitors routine and specialized laboratory tests in microbiology, hematology, chemistry, urinalysis and serologyConducts quality control procedures on equipment, reagents and productsPerforms preventative maintenance for all instruments. Troubleshoots malfunctions and makes simple repairs or identifies need for external serviceIs familiar with and follows all written procedures and policies including laboratory technical procedures, laboratory safety, and laboratory blood borne pathogen policyParticipates in laboratory proficiency testingParticipates in laboratory quality assurance program and the clinics continuous quality improvement program as necessaryComplete and file laboratory reportsAssists in keeping laboratory neat and orderly k.

Shall be knowledgeable and perform services using infection control practices in accordance with accreditation standards, Client policy and procedures and other agency regulations and lawsShall use personal protective equipment to protect patient and personnel from exposure from infectious disease as appropriateProfessional knowledge of medical terminology concepts, principles and practices derived through formal educationUnderstanding of related disciplines such as microbiology, chemistry, physiology, anatomy, and their relationships to medical terminologyKnowledge of quality control, proficiency testing and quality assurance to assure the reliability of data reportedSkill in interpreting and evaluating the results of test/examinations in process and upon completion in order to recognize anticipated reactions and departures from the norm. Repeats tests and examinations if results provide improper or imprecise outcomes and reports reoccurring abnormalities and deviations to the supervisorSkill in calibrating and operating analytical instruments sufficient to independently perform reoccurring tests and analysisKnowledge and ability necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served s.
