Overview
Medical Laboratory Technician I – Clifton, NJ. Schedule: Tuesday to Saturday, 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM. Pay range: $23.10 to $38.12 per hour. Salary offers are based on relevant skills, training, experience, education, and certifications, with market and organizational factors considered. Eligible candidates may receive annual performance bonus compensation.

Responsibilities
- Perform and report on assigned analytical tests under the direction of senior personnel in accordance with applicable SOPs, ensuring quality control requirements are met.
- May perform some moderate complexity testing with specific on-site training and oversight.
- Support and comply with laboratory policies and procedures for specimen handling, test analysis, reporting, and maintaining records of patient test results.
- Adhere to analytical schedules to maintain turnaround time of results, including STATS or critical results to clients.
- Verify reagents/test kits have received dates, expiration dates, and opened dates when applicable.
- Perform and document QC analysis to ensure accuracy of clinical data and proper instrument function; make QC decisions regarding assay or test disposition.
- Inform supervisory personnel of problems in the performance of test procedures; report any deviations from standard procedures and cooperate with investigations.
- Review and enter test results into the Laboratory Information System for standardized physician reports.
- Maintain laboratory areas and equipment in a safe, functional, and sanitary condition.
- Complete training and competency checklists as appropriate; adhere to CLIA, HIPAA, OSHA and laboratory safety requirements.
- Use required protective equipment and controls as directed by management.
- Answer questions from clients or other lab personnel, if applicable; participate in regulatory inspections if needed.

Qualifications
Required Work Experience: Previously qualified as a Technologist under 42 CFR (published March 14, 1990).
Preferred Work Experience: One to three years of clinical experience preferred.
Physical and Mental Requirements
- Ability to lift and carry objects as needed: up to 10 lb frequently, 11–25 lb occasionally, 36–50 lb seldom; objects over 50 lb require assistance.
- Ability to stand and work at the bench for long periods; frequent walking/standing.
- Proficiency with manual and automated pipettes and laboratory instruments requiring dexterity.
Knowledge
- Basic theoretical and operational knowledge in clinical testing.
- Knowledge of organizational/departmental policies and procedures.
Skills
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks.
- Interpersonal and communication skills for interactions with supervisors, co-workers, and clients.
- Confidential handling of client information.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Laboratory Information Systems.
Education
- Associates Degree in Laboratory Science or Medical Technology (required); foreign-educated candidates must provide credential evaluation from IERF; US-educated candidates must provide a detailed original transcript.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology or BS/BA in Chemistry or Biology (preferred).
Licenses and Certifications
- ASCP Certification (preferred).
