We’re searching for a Medical Laboratory Scientist Lead, someone who’s ready to be part of the best ranked children’s hospital in Texas, and among the best in the nation. In this position, you'll oversee workflow and perform quality assurance duties in the Laboratory Section of your responsibility. You may also serves as team leader, scheduler, and primary trainer for the section.Think you’ve got what it takes?Job Duties & ResponsibilitiesValidates specimen identification, type and size and processes samples according to established handling protocolsOrganizes and prioritizes routine, STAT and Laboratory Triage System samples to meet required turnaround timesPerforms routine and specialized testing, evaluates questionable results, repeats tests when necessary and documents corrective actions in the laboratory information systemReports critical results promptly and documents all required informationPerforms and reviews quality control procedures, investigates unacceptable results and completes corrective-action documentationConducts instrument function checks, calibrations and scheduled and unscheduled maintenance and troubleshoots equipment problemsAssists with new testing processes, written procedures, audits, statistical analyses and operational reportsMaintains appropriate inventory levels and monitors reagent crossover checks, expiration dates and backordersTrains students and employees, develops training materials and competency assessments and coordinates internship assignmentsRevises and maintains technical procedure manuals and participates in continuing education and in-service programsTroubleshoots laboratory information system issues and supports system maintenance, interfaces, upgrades, test plans and training documentsPerforms laboratory in-charge duties as needed and supports safety practices, regulatory compliance, inspections and budget planningCommunicates testing, quality control and instrumentation problems promptly to appropriate laboratory leadershipPerforms other related duties as assignedSkills & RequirementsBachelor’s degree in chemical, biological, clinical or medical laboratory science, medical technology or a related field from an accredited institution, or equivalent education requiredThree years of experience in a laboratory setting applicable to the assigned area of responsibility or certification requiredOne of the following certifications must be obtained within 18 months of entering the role required:BB-ASCP Technologist in Blood Banking, American Society for Clinical PathologyC-ASCP Technologist in Chemistry, American Society for Clinical PathologyH-ASCP Technologist in Hematology, American Society for Clinical PathologyHT-ASCP Histotechnician, American Society for Clinical PathologyHTL-ASCP Histotechnologist, American Society for Clinical PathologyM-ASCP Technologist in Microbiology, American Society for Clinical PathologyMB-ASCP Technologist in Molecular Biology, American Society for Clinical PathologyMLS-ASCP Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society for Clinical PathologyMP-ASCP Technologist in Molecular Pathology, American Society for Clinical PathologyMT-ASCP Medical Technologist, American Society for Clinical PathologyMT-AMT Medical Technologist, American Medical TechnologistsSM-ASCP Specialist in Microbiology, American Society for Clinical PathologyIMLS International Medical Laboratory Scientist, American Society for Clinical PathologyCLSp-NCA Clinical Laboratory Specialist, National Credentialing AgencyMT-NCA Medical Technologist, National Certification Agency for Laboratory PersonnelMT-STATE Medical Technologist certification from any stateMT-AAB Medical Technologist, American Association of BioanalystsCT-ASCP Cytotechnologist, American Society for Clinical PathologySCT-ASCP Specialist in Cytology, American Society for Clinical PathologyMaster’s degree or higher in biology, chemistry, laboratory science or a related field may substitute for one year of the required experience preferred Since 1954, Texas Children’s has been leading the charge in patient care, education and research to accelerate health care for children and women around the world.
