Medical TechnologistSummary The Medical Technologist performs laboratory procedures accurately and efficiently in accordance with hospital and departmental policies.

Responsibilities span the Pre-Analytic, Analytic, and Post-Analytic phases of laboratory workflow.

The role may involve delegating tasks in the absence of a supervisor or lead and must comply with CLIA standards for moderate and high complexity testing.Essential ResponsibilitiesPerforms authorized moderate and high complexity tests requiring appropriate skill and trainingFollows procedures for specimen handling, processing, analysis, and result reportingMaintains records for proficiency testing and ensures consistency with patient specimen testingAdheres to quality control policies and documents all related activities and maintenanceResponds appropriately when test systems fall outside acceptable performance levelsIdentifies and resolves issues affecting test performance or escalates as neededDocuments corrective actions when performance specifications are not metProduces consistently accurate work and promotes high standards across the teamCommunicates clearly and professionally, exercises sound judgment, and adapts tone to audienceWorks independently with minimal supervision, follows instructions, and seeks guidance when necessaryDemonstrates technical competency and applies knowledge effectively in daily tasksPractices safety protocols rigorously and promotes awareness of unsafe practicesEducation Requirements Bachelor's degree in chemical, biological, clinical, or medical laboratory science or medical technology from an accredited institution Plus one of the following:Associate degree in laboratory science or medical laboratory technologyCompletion of a 50-week US military medical laboratory training course with relevant occupational specialtyExperience Minimum of one year full-time clinical laboratory experienceLicense or Certification ASCP, AMT, or equivalent nationally recognized certification required Examples include Medical Laboratory Scientist MLS or Laboratory Technologist Certification HEWKnowledge and SkillsFamiliarity with laboratory equipment such as centrifuges, microscopes, auto analyzersProficiency with LIS, keyboarding, calculators, and fax machinesBasic computer skills requiredCaring for Our Team We offer a comprehensive benefits package to support our employees' well-being and professional growth.
